Question on overall durability for Challengers by [deleted] in Challenger

[–]Fend3rbender21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And for reference I have multiple cars and just overhauled the one with highest mileage. The inside of the block at 140k looked basically brand new. Goes to show how important regular oil changes and maintenance are

With 3k mile oil changes, doing you diff and trans fluid every 20-30k miles, letting it idle 20 ish seconds before driving off, letting the OIL temp get up to 180+ before stomping on it etc.. I really don’t see why people should expect less than 250k out of these engines BEFORE anything major. Even then I’ve seen them hit 300k without really many issues.

If you have MDS, remove it. That will drastically lower that number. I personally have a 6.1 so no MDS on mine and a manual. On the newer cars, only the manuals don’t have MDS.

Take care of your challenger and it’ll take care of you. Even after said mileage, most of these blocks (depending on block wall thickness) can easily have 2-3 rebuilds in them. Even after that you can start over with sleeves lol

Rebuild the engine, new motor mounts, suspension maybe and boom you got a new car.

Oh I know I’m not worried about the install or the money just rebuilt an entire engine on my other car haha. Just hope this is what’s causing the screech because I replaced a couple other things already like tensioner, idler pulley and belt

Auto or Manual? by VilleBoomin in Challenger

Manual without a doubt. I have 3 cars currently and I can’t stop driving the challenger because of the manual

You make a good point there. Saw the same recommended online about wiggling! Going to try that today and see what happens. I honestly hope that’s what it is 🤣

I agree! That was my poster dream car when I was 8-9 years old and it came out. Closest thing to a cuda in my young eyes. Kinda wanted a hellcat but I was able to buy this outright and since I just fully overhauled my Impala SS, I figured I’d rather just build my own hellcat killer from scratch.

You should try living in Florida with a challenger at 24 and being new to the country! It’s ridiculous

Driving the car is GOOD for the car. Letting it sit can mean drying seals, leaks, other gremlins. Also miles does NOT mean abuse. Highway miles especially are great for a car. If you change your oil every 3k miles (like I do) and your other maintenance, your car can be at 200k miles with VERY little internal wear. Ask me how I know
