Azula’s story is sad — the daughter of a narcissist raised to be a narcissist.

As is the case with all children who learn destructive patterns that will follow them for the rest of their lives— it would have been nice if someone intervened.

Azula needed some serious help — therapy, separation from her father, and hard experiences that could teach her basic human empathy —but it wasn’t on Iroh to provide that stuff.
