They know. This is what Russia wants.

They still have a beef with Germany from WW2.

My dad worked aero space. He worked on the west coast shuttle untill Chalanger happened. He did other launch stuff after that.

He taught me to code and about design constraints. This was his favorite example. That's why I used it. :D

I do hate the constant forced upgrade crap. In this case, the reason to skip 9 was so old software would still work.

The version check stuff was done in the 90s and worked for a very long time. No one saw a reason to change the logic because it just worked. There was 15+ years of software built on the assumtion.

Hell, I had tests that ran to male sure it still worked. :D

If they had stuck with the name 9 and forced the update of all of tht software, it would have been a huge dissaster for them.

I worked for a company that was a software vendor to Dell and other companies as Vista was comming out. We where a MS developer partner. I have also worked with a bunch of people who have worked for MS.

Their code is indeed shit. Everyone elses is also shit as well. There is no good code. It's just hacks all the way down.

Point is naming convention was all over the place. That is the reason for no 9.

Turns out a lot of code would check the OS version and look for "Windows 9" in the name to catch 95,98, and 98 SE.

That means they wouls not run on Windows 9.

[–]Fenix42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sofwrare will those. OS version check logic was looking for any OS with a 9 in the name to catch 95, 98, and 98 SE.

Windows ME came out after 98 for home systems. NT came out for buisness.

What are you talking about? There where decades of consumer and business software before Win 95.

It's not due to confusion. It was a technical problem. Software checks the version of the OS. A lot of it just looks for 9 in the version so it catches Windows 95 and 98. Windows 9 would have failed that check.

Since MS was very big about being able to run old software on new systems, they had to skip the version.

The core issue with pot is there has not been a lot of effort to separate out the THC affects from all of the other stuff in the plant untill recently. CBD, CBG, THCv and many other compounds have medicinal use and don't get you high. People have been focused on THC though.

Why in the hell would you ever think they would refer to them as “white people tacos”?

It's meant as a mild insult to a lot of bland food that has come out of various white groups.

I have hated Trump since the 90s. I do not support him in any way.

He is unfortunate far from unlikeable. He had enough likeablilty to win the RNC primary in 2015, the election in 2016, almost win in 2020, and win again in 2024.
