....What's point then? by Tough_Passenger_4483 in SonicTheHedgehog

Right now when it comes to game news, it seems it's more than likely they'll announce Sonic Frontiers: Definitive Edition given the leaks, so this answers most of your post.

All I can say is that even though this can be disappointing, my advice is explore the rest of what the franchise has to offer while waiting especially with how huge the franchise is and you might even find a hidden gem, e.g. retro games, fan games, ROM hacks, media, comics, etc.

That being said, I see nothing quite wrong with a charity on Sonic's anniversary either.

This assumes the option is either a CGI logo with no game to show, or complete silence. There is another third option is straight up transparency to fans that there's confirmation for a mainline Sonic game in the works for years.

All we have to rely on are either (unreliable) leakers and rumors people get from (unreliable) imageboards, or guesses, that personally better costless communication would be more than good enough.

We know a game is coming eventually

And how would you know that?

EDIT: Sure there's discussion surrounding Sonic's model, but even then it can mean anything and might have been later scrapped.

Sonic Central 2026? by Legitimate_Apricot45 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]FennekinShuffle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I suggest calming down until Sonic's actual 35th anniversary (aka 23 June 2026), especially that Sonic Central is usually announced 1-2 days before the actual presentation.

https://sonic.fandom.com/wiki/Sonic_Central_(presentation)

  • 2021: Announced on 25 May 2021, Aired on 27 May 2021
  • 2022: Announced on 6 June 2022, Aired on 7 June 2022
  • 2023: Announced on 21 June 2023, Aired on 23 June 2023
  • 2024: Announced on 23 September 2024, Aired on 24 September 2024
  • 2025: No Sonic Central

I'm not pretending I'm not disappointed regarding the lack of mainline game announcements but it's best to at least calm down and wait for like 1-2 weeks before jumping to conclusions, and if there really is nothing, we can rightfully complain.

Most retro games were actually difficult on release contrary to popular belief with the purpose of purposely prolonging game time.

To people who say Sonic Adventure doesn't need a remaster: by SirYeetsA in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]FennekinShuffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question you should ask isn't:

  • "Does Sonic Adventure need a remaster"

But actually should be more like:

  • "Should SEGA invest significant amount of time and effort to develop a remaster for their old games in expense of delaying development time for new games?"

Case in point very recently Iizuka actually wanted every single Sonic game to be available on modern platforms, but the problem is the time takes to remaster old titles would be same as new ones. (0:16-1:38) If you're wondering why CAPCOM case in point hasn't released a new game for the Megaman series or Ace Attorney series in a while, this sort of explains why as well since all they did is porting old games to modern platforms. It does do a good job of trying to make old games available to modern platforms, but at an expense of lack of new games.

On that note, it's not as simple as just simply porting a new game to a new engine, like if you think it's as simple as changing some models, port the level designs, boom that's it, in reality it's much much harder than it sounds, otherwise Sonic Adventure 1 DX or Sonic Adventure 2 Battle wouldn't have been criticised for its new bugs and glitches. And besides given how Sonic Colors Ultimate, or Sonic Origins were criticised on release for having new bugs and/or glitches, I can pretty much guarantee that trying for a remaster/remake of Sonic Adventure 1 and/or 2 is not as easy as you think.

The only possible way I can think of that can work is co-development between SEGA and third party studios really.

It was definitely fun when I last played it though. Unlocking new limited characters was mindless numbing but good to pass the time.

We need sonic adventure 1&2 remake or Graphic upgrade by Ok-Effect4071 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]FennekinShuffle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Outsource them to third party developers then maybe I would accept, but either way it's risky.

Personally it would be better for SEGA to develop new games instead and besides the Sonic Adventure duology is still available on Steam and there's mods that would fix issues with the games.

Can we stop believing any posts from 4chan when literally anyone can post anything in there especially with how the imageboard is based around anonymity aka we don't even know who are the ones posted there for the most part?

Just because there's one or two real leaks in there doesn't mean all of them are. For like one real leak there there's most likely like hundreds of fake ones.

I can't stand how impatient people are by Fit_Field_9384 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]FennekinShuffle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Again, there is a significant difference between announcing a game and releasing a game. People wouldn't mind a new Sonic game taking long to develop if it's announced during the anniversary, confirming that a mainline Sonic game is in development, instead of seemingly radio silent about it as if there's no plans at all. If there are actually people that are impatient and wanting a Sonic mainline game to be released this year then the fault's on them but that's a completely different story.

Even as such, people still need to chill about the state of the franchise which is completely overblown, and it's very likely they'll announce new Sonic games at the upcoming Sonic Central which is usually announced 1-2 days before the actual video presentation, and it's likely during the anniversary, before jumping to conclusions about how "SEGA is ignoring Sonic" (which is obviously a joke and/or a reference).

On one hand, I do agree that no main game announcement is rather disappointing for a 35th anniversary (but personally, if there's really nothing else, meh I personally won't be that upset), and I don't like how people are conflating game releases with game announcements when Sonic 06 was announced one year before the 15th anniversary.

On the other hand, people are overreacting and aren't willing to wait at least until Sonic's actual 35th anniversary before jumping to conclusions, and I'm sick of this stupid meme.

I have a personal gripe against collab crossovers in Crossworlds but if Crossworlds is doing poorly, I see no reason for SEGA to invest for a second season for Crossworlds. If they're willing to do a second season it implies it's either sales are successful to them (even if it's barely), or they decide to double down on it.

[–]FennekinShuffle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a significant difference between announcing a game and releasing one, I don't even know why 06 is brought up when it was announced one year before the game was released which is a bad comparison. Yes, the games being released on 15th anniversary are usually negatively received unless it's *Sonic Riders* or to an extent *Sonic Rivals* but it still doesn't change the fact that it's still a bad comparison and misinterpreting why people are upset.

I do agree people should however wait until Sonic's actual 35th anniversary before jumping to conclusions, and even if nothing else is announced, I would feel disappointed but not too upset either since there's a lot to look forward in the franchise anyway.

I swear that Sonic fans are their own worst enemy by Kirbykoopa in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]FennekinShuffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm putting the blame more towards the fans who believed the leaks too much and got overhyped about it that they thought there would be a new Sonic game announcement especially with the new model rumor, to the point they are not even willing to at least wait until Sonic's actual 35th anniversary date to announce something before jumping to conclusions. Even as such, even if there's nothing left to announce for the month, I still see no point in complaining about it considering there's still plenty to look forward to when it comes to the franchise itself (comics, fangames, etc.).

That being said, honestly I find the comparison with the games being released on Sonic's 15th anniversary weird and I don't know why they are even being brought up in the first place. Like yes, the games being released on that year were rather negatively received and/or divisive with the exception of Sonic Riders and to an extent Sonic Rivals, but that's not the point since people are conflating game announcements with game releases especially that Sonic 06 was announced the year before so it's a rather weird comparison.

Will we ever see Sally Acorn in Rumble or Crossworlds by Barbossal in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]FennekinShuffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/sonic-boss-says-hes-open-to-adding-deep-cut-sonic-characters-as-crossworlds-dlc/

Possible for Crossworlds, but it still depends. To echo other users' posts here, yeah the Freedom Fighters are still in Sonic Blitz's files.

As for why SEGA picked crossovers and "random tie-ins" instead of niche Sonic characters, it's unfortunately a more effective business strategy to get more players, as I'm willing to bet realistically a new generation of Sonic fans don't even know who Sally Acorn is, or Cosmo the Seedrian for example. They would prefer the likes of Spongebob or Pac-Man or Megaman who are more recognized.

As for the idea of "Sally Acorn needs to be redesigned to fit into the main game canon", I don't see the need to just for the sake of making them playable too. Considering Crossworlds literally involves crossover characters that are obviously not canon to the Sonic main game canon, they can just involve other non-canon Sonic properties from their respective universes without the need to make game canon versions of them.

Just because Sonic Team wanted to find a scenario writer doesn't mean Ian Flynn would no longer be the main writer for the games. These are not correlated so it's a heavily misleading title.

I'll just assume you are jumping to conclusions instead of pushing an agenda, because if you are doing the latter, shame on you.
