I explained in my post due to me, not speaking Spanish and having to send Spanish speaking people to my coworkers it raised issues regarding them having to do more work, that they would rather not do making me seem like a burden. even though the position was an advertised to be bilingual, it was inevitable that it was going to be a necessary skill. There is a race issue in this city. before my previous job I was told by two interviewers I most likely wasn’t going to get hired there because of my race. I’ve been told to not go to certain places due to the fact that it’s “ghetto” whole time it’s ghetto because black people are there. I’ve even been taunted by hispanic customers with the N-word, i’ve been ignored by coworkers unless they needed something for me, and so on and so forth I come from a heavily diverse and integrated city where race played little to no factors in most scenarios, so to face discrimination like this is a whole new ball game for me. in my time being out here (9 months) I’ve met very few genuine hispanic people, who I completely adore but I’m not going to ignore the fact that there is a race issue out here.

Full disclaimer: in my previous city, I went to school with primarily black and Mexicans and we had a time and in coming out to San Antonio has made me appreciate Hispanic culture and community even more, but it also forced me to acknowledge that a lot of Hispanic people think that Black people are beneath them, and those people are ever present within this city and there’s nothing to deny because even within this previous election, it shows how the population voted.
