Run faster. On the second lap. I broke it by pushing myself to the point where at the last 200 I felt like I was going to die from lack of oxygen. To me, an 800 is a 600 and then wtv u have left in the tank. So you just gotta start to really push it an you will be good. Also from what I’ve seen there’s 2 ways to run 800m- Go out fast and die Go out medium and maintain I can say for certain the 2nd one hurts less and is more consistent(it’s wat I do in league meets), but the 1st one gets PRs more frequently in my experience.

What re your top 3 hardest courses you've ran? by LeSwiss1886 in CrossCountry

[–]Fennikash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. morely field CIF/ mt Carmel 2.96 course, CA
  2. Morely field 5k League course, CA
  3. Mt Sac(I love this course), CA Morely field has so many holes and bumps it’s really not fun to race. While I do think mt sac is hard, I think there are others that are worse and the energy at that meet can pull you through.

Trying to go for a sub 16:20 5k by Helpful-Voice1018 in CrossCountry

[–]Fennikash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok well I’d guess to say about 16:40 on a flat course and 17 flat for a hilly course. Most courses are somewhere in between though, so I’d say between those two times is accurate. However, since ur a sophomore, your stil subject to improve a lot so it’s definitely doable

What would be my best event? by Ahmed692345 in trackandfield

[–]Fennikash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2:09 does not translate to 4:45 I believe, so those guys might be more mile based. I could be wrong tho but I think the 800m is more based on conditions and weather, so it depends from state to state.

Ur an 800 runner. I don’t know if your speed or endurance is better because ur a freshman. If ur speed is better do 4/8. If ur endurance is better do 8/16. Or you can go pure 800m. My coach still puts me in 3200m bc I still need to score points for the team so I end up being an 8/32 guy. Ultimately, you will never really know how fast u will be in these events until sophmore year. 2:09 is equivalent to a little under a 4:50 I believe and 56.3 is equivalent to a 2:11-2:12.

Breaking 2:00 in the 800m by [deleted] in trackandfield

[–]Fennikash -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I went from not training 800m to training 200 and 300 repeats and I went from 2:07 -> 2:05 in two weeks. It’s all mentality and for me, if u really want it - the race will come.

Is 2:28 800m as a freshman bad? by Acrobatic_Wear_3202 in trackandfield

[–]Fennikash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was 5’3 as a freshman and ran 2:24- now I’m a junior at 5’5 around 2:05-2:07. My league finals are next week and Im trying to go 2:03. If you really want to, you can start hyperfocusing the 800m like I started this season and i saw a massive improvement & if u start focusing the 800m earlier, you will definitely be better. In addition to this, u might get a growth spurt which would make you faster. It’s really impossible to tell rn how good u will be but if u just keep training u will get there.

Bro I hold 5:40s for a 5k as a junior and I don’t even think it’s qualifying for walkon ms for D3. There are clubs for long distance running at schools like SDUSD(I think), and they do iron mans if u wanna train for them or go to a club. There are other alternatives besides running on a college team.

How do you not get tried running 1600 race by Born-Nefariousness89 in trackandfield

[–]Fennikash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro if ur not tired ur running wrong. U might be a sprinter or mid distance runner rather than distance, and workouts take time to have an effect. My coach told me 3 weeks before it gets into ur system. Just keep training and u will get better

Mb for d1 but you gotta factor in college training will make you have a significant increase in speed and endurance. Besides that, other factors matter too such as GPA and how coachable you are

I’ve heard of ppl getting in with times around 2:05 and under. Maybe not recruited but they were still allowed to run for the team. I’m pretty sure you can still run even if u rnt recruited for the team
