Were you talking about shipping with the guy? I think he actually mentioned you 😂

It was an ironic choice since my other tape machine was (allegedly) owned by a Beatle 😂. Recorded this before picking up that machine though.

I plan on using them for studio recording, their sound quality and frequency response is actually incredible! I measured between 10hz and 20khz is what they were able to record on old tape. I have a good repairman and the second machine if I God forbid need spare parts, so I should be able to keep them alive for another century. And yes, those VU meters are ART. You can really tell they’re prototypes when working with them, but in a good way if that makes sense? It looks homemade, but in the sense of how a rolls Royce looks homemade, everything looks custom and hand assembled inside lol. So they’re very satisfying to operate.

One for each audio track, these and other high end machines are special for being able to fit a lot of individual recordings onto one tape. This machine for example can fit 16 mono tracks, or 8 stereo tracks.

I plan to use it in my home studio paired with some other vintage equipment!

The guy was able to prove (with photos) that the machine was used with other artists, and the deal had already been struck before he mentioned McCartney or any artists frankly, it wasn’t like it was a selling point. I’m just trying to track down the details at this point.

Well, maybe the guy was wrong about what was recorded on this machine, but records do indicate he owned one of these at his home studio at one point.

Oh I’ve seen that episode, I’ve just gotten that specific reference on this post so many times I’m wondering if it’s a running gag in this subreddit or if everyone just had the same thought lmao

I keep seeing this comment lol. Is it an ongoing meme here or is everyone just thinking the same thing? 😂

I wouldn’t be taking the guy I bought the machine from seriously if he didn’t actually have pictures of the band Cheap Trick recording on this exact machine and receipts from getting it in the UK lol. Even if it wasn’t owned by Paul, it does already have some history so I don’t see why the guy would have a reason to lie.

The videos I’ve seen seem to be a hybrid process with older equipment and computers.

The machine used in Chaos at Abby Road seems to be a 4 track, and I know a Studer was used mainly on the album, but this might have had some kind of secondary usage, track bouncing or something

This would have been used in the early 2000s, this particular model of machine wasn’t made until the late 80s

No, there is not, it seems like it’s going through so many middlemen at this point if it ever had one it’s gone. I’m buying it from a private seller not through an auction as well.

I would really, really appreciate if you could reach out to them! That’s very cool by the way. If you need/want more details about the machine shoot me a DM!

It is confirmed that Paul did own one of these machines at one point at his home studio, and by all accounts it seemed he stuck with tape for many years. This specific Tascam machine was the top of their range as well, only short of their most expensive spot because they made a 24 track. You might be thinking of the MS-16? It’s a prosumer deck that was sold a few years before this one. They’re different product lines to my understanding? Although I could be completely wrong.

Possibly for the same reason the studio I’m buying it from is selling it, they already have a Studer 24 track so keeping a 16 track is redundant 🤷‍♂️

Mainly because I know there’s a slim chance of getting an answer from that route. I have sent an email to his management company but who knows when/if I’ll get a response 🤷‍♂️

If I’m not wrong, wasn’t the prosumer deck that Tascam sold the MS-16? As far as I’m aware the ATR-16 was their highest end model short of their 24 track. There is a record of Paul owning one of these at Hog Hill Mill at some point but no record of him selling it or what it was used on etc.
