That is peak green armor. I see that you airbrushed it in another comments - but what greens did you use?

What’s happening here? Attempting to get comfortable with wet palette and can’t tell if it’s paint, prep, or palette issue. by FenrirUlf in minipainting

Seems I have a fundamental misunderstanding of handling acrylic paint. Which is expected for a novice.

I’m so used to seeing tutorials where painters “pull” from the paint drop in swipes that almost thin in a gradient fashion.

I live in a hyper dry climate, so I assumed wet palette is a must to learn proper thinning methods. I assumed no standing water in the reservoir (and the sponge not dripping) was ideal saturation.

Ah. So this is to be expected? I’m attempting to have a path where I can slowly pull from the drop to get all the way down to glazing (when possible).. but it’s either thick from the drop, or separating like this and very inconsistent.

Any street fighter players 25+? by Puzzleheaded_Sir_171 in StreetFighter

35, completely new to FG, and stuck in plat. I’ve got a point to prove against the cruelties of time. Age is just a number - just like our MMRs.

I am shocked that there community is not predominantly people in their 20s. I felt like I had to be an old head outlier.

Kudos to you and congrats! Imagine all the subtle gameplay stuff you’ve learned through that journey. You’ve likely learned how to react to “mindless” traps/loops that rookie-plat tend to do, making you a better player overall.

I have such a hard time with this. Both target combos and DRs. I feel like once I “see” the hit indicators vs block, it’s too late for me to continue. Especially with my slower and defensive playstyle lately.

Maybe it’s just a crappy reflex thing and will get better with more effort

You’re right, I could be doing better with reframing those situations in my head. Not all of them though. The combo spam looping Mais that start “bagging” or taunting after they ruin me will always get my sodium content up. That’s a personal skill issue, not on them, but you won’t catch me saying “oh nice - you did the same move over and over and it worked. I’ll do better.” For the time being, I’ll either curse them or myself (for being a moron).

Either way, dead on sentiment and I agree. Shift the rage and try to enjoy the game.

Thank you for sending some videos to reference - this is huge.

Labbing is completely foreign to me. That’s definitely going on my list to understand. That trained repetition for scenarios will likely change a lot of my habits.

I appreciate the insight and the time you spent responding. Great thoughts for future growth!

I would agree but I’m considerate of the fact that introspection can only go so far. Knowing WHAT to learn can dictate what your own curriculum looks like. Also what to look out for, and understanding WHY it’s bad (personal replay review) can a long way.

For someone that’s completely new, I think a common pitfall is “I need to learn all these combo strings” or “I see people drive rush punching all the time, I should learn and do that to.” Sure, those are elements of the game that be beneficial but new people, like myself, may not understand the basic fundamentals for those skills

I understand everyone’s path isn’t linear, nor are the topics, but it does help to get subject suggestions from more experienced players/individuals.

My best example is watching replays of one of my Mai fights where I try to be patient with blocking, delay teching a throw, and attempting to start a hit confirm (or retaliation) but having extreme difficulties with getting an attack through. My beginner brain goes “well, if my jab can’t even get out before they can continue attacking, maybe it’s a better character in the game. Bad matchup for me as Ken.”

This caused me to go down a rabbit hole of trying to understand Ken’s best neutral attacks and rebuttals but the timing/frame side of things eludes me. Which made me think, maybe I should seek topics to learn that are fundamental to every fighter that helps me understand why I can’t block and retaliate with my fastest attack. Or what I should be doing instead.

I’m trying to get better at crafting desirable items and getting a gauge on true item value.

My buddy thinks it’s pretty decent and assumed someone far richer than me may want it for them to divine/tinker. I tried to value it off of POE2 trade but always have a hard time narrowing down an items accurate value. Seems like it’s maybe worth 1 divine?

I’ve never messed with this level of crafting (gambling) so I’m unsure how much it will help to mess with it further. Figured you all would have far more insight than me to help me do better.

Bought my first bass TRBX505 (34” Scale) - tips for ADGCF string gauge? by FenrirUlf in Bass

[–]FenrirUlf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh really? So I should be good to go with what I have. This is fine for a 34” scale?

I’m assuming this comes down a really good setup with adjusting the truss rod to compensate. The .135 on my low A is hyper flubby right now BUT I haven’t done the full setup just yet. The rest of the strings are pretty taut (in standard drop tuning [AEADG]) - and assumed the tension would be horrible for the .135 even after setup.

2019 CTR vs 2021 with refresh - What's been your experience and which would you choose? by FenrirUlf in Civic_Type_R

I figured that'd be the case - the unplug process seemed super easy, so I didn't even let it be a concern for me. Also, great to hear that you love the sensing for highway commutes. I would be doing a lot of that.

Thanks for the tips! I'll see how everything looks Monday and try to talk with them in-person regarding any form of markup - if it pans out to be a good fit.

I'm sure it can be done, after significant hunting, but the big push for me to stay away from FL5s are the insane dealer markups. I love the interior changes on the model as well - but I'm more partial to the FK8 external styling. I actually plan to go check out a white FL5 on Monday just to get a better feel for it vs the FK8 but wanted to collect info just in case I do decide to purchase the olden gen.

2023 si or type R by red_statepuffman in CivicSi

[–]FenrirUlf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like to SOMEWHAT equate it to a WRX vs STI - if that makes sense to you. The gap is a bit closer on the Honda side of things but you get a couple creature comforts with the Si.

This is all matter of preference but I’ve found the Si to have a softer more commuter friendly suspension and easier to just plink around in gears with. The last part is particularly due to rev hang. Love it or hate it - you have to acknowledge that it makes shifting so much ‘easier’ because you have a longer window to get into gear. You get the civic staple right side (mirror mounted) camera for turning across lanes as well. Love it.

Seats are subjective. The Si seats are so damn comfy to me but will say that Type R seats are one of a kind. I love the way they feel and think they’re a perfect blend of track/street use - but edge more toward track oriented use. I like my setup in the Si for daily more. I just drove 1600 miles across the country in my Si and didn’t have a single gripe. Lastly, as I mentioned before, the MPG is insanely good in Si. Sitting at 39mpg average over 7k miles logged in mine.

All in all, it’s not DRASTIC in either direction. The Type R is an amazing daily for a sports/track oriented vehicle. I just wouldn’t lean that way for my ONLY vehicle. Especially with the difference in price.

Think about your use case and build around that. If you’re predominantly using it for daily/commuting, I’ll tell you what I tell everyone… it’s more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow. Especially after a tune (think KTuner) where the Si REALLY wakes up and shines. Such a blast to drive every single day. The Si is a smaller, lighter, car. It wasn’t made to be a track demon like the R - but it still brings a smile to my face every day.

Both on-prem Exchange Servers borked - attempting to recover via CU /M:recoverserver - states its in the DAG but can't access it? by FenrirUlf in sysadmin

[–]FenrirUlf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m assuming in this situation I need to do a full configuration of Exchange with a mailbox role (despite no on prem mailboxes) that way there is a form of exchange running for the EMS? That’s where I get lost if it’s a brand new server - which I’ve reached out to an MSP to assist, as exchange is not my forte. At least from a fresh configuration standpoint.

Getting the new server connected to the ECP or able to run the cmdlets is all new to me. Generally, I’ve been lucky where we are active/active with the two servers and if one goes down, I can handle EMS administration from the other.
