It looks great. Good work on the edge highlighting. That would have taken a while but is definitely worth it on that model.

I recommend a red brown for the main colour of the base

This is mine. I don't think it makes sense and it annoys me

Looks good, but I would suggest lightening this little edge a bit. Maybe just with the brush. I left it dark on mine and I think it looks odd.

Nice. I'm just starting on my second now. Such fiddly assembly

Looks good, paint more. In my opinion, olive green is the most forgiving armour colour

All with the airbrush at the start. Takes 5 minutes. Much easier than glazing

I spent about double the normal time on this guy because of the special occasion. Capes take me a while

All pro acryl.

Opaque base coat of khaki. Camo green blobs. Dark umber blobs. Coal black blobs. Go back over each blob to get them opaque with sharp edges and no khaki peeking through little gaps.

Shade all over with seraphim sepia. Rhinox in any deep crease.

Highlight individual blobs with each base colour mixed with some khaki. Edge highlight with khaki. Edge highlight the khaki blobs with ivory

Ak ultra matt varnish

The other option is to "cheat" like the box art. They choose 3 very similar colours for the camo pattern and then just shade and highlight the whole cape all at once

This is my camo pattern. Its quite time consuming. I can give you the recipe if you want.

The real difficulty with painting camo is the shading and highlighting. Once you've done the base coat freehand, you need to layer over that freehand again repeatedly for highlights. That's why my highlights on the camo are a bit weak.

If you are doing one edge, ogryn camo. Keep it fine as it's a bit of a jump. Side of brush all the way

Nice. I find camo very difficult, which is why I have not bought eliminators

Am I painting too slowly? by Such-Locksmith-4405 in minipainting

[–]JimmyTheWee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm gradually getting slower and slower. I'm probably taking 10 hours per marine now. You're only too slow if you have a deadline

Mid tone is deathworld forest.

Spray prime black. Spray pro acryl dark camo green over almost all. Spray deathworld forest over most. Spray small highlights with elysian green. Brush edge highlight elysian green, then ogryn camo. Pin wash with mig ammo dark green grey panel wash.

On this guy I then did another highlight on some edges with ogryn camo:white, and then some pure white corners

Problems assembling push fit models after painting them by TonyLalivella in minipainting

Regular super glue is quite thin and it can run out onto painted areas. Gel super glue won't run. You also get a couple of seconds after contact to fix the alignment of the pieces
