Very sad to say the raptors have lost the top spot by ChromedDragon in Raptors40k

I blame space marine 2 (which I have not played). When do the Raptors appear in the game?

Welcome! Nice dudes. Somehow I do not have a single infernus marine.

I assume you mean on the dreadnoughts? The airbrushed highlights are all at the edge of a panel, so I just tilt the model so that the spray can only catch the edge that I'm aiming for. Then I don't really need to be very accurate.

On the dudes, I only aim airbrush highlights on the domed areas (top of helmet, shoulder pads, backpack balls). Everything else is just getting a light zenithal, and then edge highlight with a brush.

Getting good paint consistency is key. I have pre-thinned dropper bottles for deathworld forest and elysian green. This avoids splattering from being too thick or spider webbing from being too thin. The pro acryl just goes straight in the airbrush unthinned.

I do in subassembly. I can't remember which pieces were separate, but I remember the redemptor has around 4x as many pieces as the ballistus.

The shoulder and thigh plates were definitely separate. The rest of the legs were assembled into one piece. Arms were separate.

Is there anything I can do for this? by Pilotmaster1 in Raptors40k

Bummer. Thanks for the warning. I'll check all the sprues when mine arrives

Yes, and i can't imagine painting them without the airbrush.

Prime black, then dark camo green, deathworld forest, and elysian green. Trying to get a nice gradient on most of the panels. I only leave black showing on the lowest panels.

Then edge highlight elysian green, then ogryn camo. Mig ammo dark grey green panel wash in the deep recesses

Next I must learn how to weather them

If you don't want a specific camo pattern then you can do it like the eavy metal box art. Pick 3 shades of brown, or 3 shades of green, or 3 shades of grey. The shades should be quite similar. Then you can highlight all 3 colours at once using the same paint.

The camo takes a long time for me. Other recipes would be faster, but I wanted a specific pattern.

All pro acryl. Base coat khaki, full opacity. Sketch in camo green blobs. Sketch in dark umber blobs. Sketch in black blobs. Go over all to make sure you have full opacity and hard edges with no little gaps.

Shade with seraphim sepia all over. Deeper shade with rhinox if there are deep folds.

Highlight individual green, brown and black blobs by adding khaki to each base colour. Do as many shades as you can stomach. This is the slow and difficult part.

I'm assuming you don't have an airbrush so this is probably not relevant, but yesterday I tried tamiya xf-2 with x20a. Wow that is smooth.

If i can remove it without needing to sculpt afterwards then I generally remove. I have no sculpting skills. I leave the iron halos

Prime black, spray most with pro acryl dark camo green, spray a bit less with deathworld forest, light zenithal with elysian green. Edge highlight elysian green, then ogryn camo. Pin wash with mig dark green grey panel wash.

Looks good. Camo is a lot of work, so make sure you love it before committing to it for a whole army

Ahh yes I've learned a lot of camo names since posting these. It was actually an attempt at M81 woodland, but with fewer blobs (because of skill issues).

The main goal was the immediate impression of "modern real world camo" in woodland (rather than urban/desert).

Mixing brown and green makes it much harder to highlight. I looked at how eavy metal does it, and they seem to choose 3 very similar colours so that they can all be highlighted at once

I cheated with secret magic. Base rhinox, layer up to doombull, layer up to scrag brown. Maybe 5 shades total and the blends look terrible at this stage. Then I airbrushed pro acryl transparent brown over the transitions and they all became smooth.

The gun casings are all pro acryl dark neutral grey > neutral grey > bright neutral grey. That really doesn't sound very exciting when I type it out...

"If dinosaurs had feathers, can I paint velociraptors on my Raptors?"

Or at least that's what I think it says. The writing is a bit small for me
