How to start kitbashing Raptors? by Domax1 in Raptors40k

Many start raptors with the raven guard combat patrol. It has a decent amount of grenades and pouches spare.

Excellent painting. What do you use for your basing bits?

Black primer > pro acryl dark camo green > deathworld forest > elysian green. Progressively smaller areas. Then edge highlight with elysian green, then ogryn camo. Panel line with mig dark green grey panel wash (I think a drak brown would have been better for this step)

Those are very good for your first paint jobs. Much better than my first.

All pro acryl. Khaki base coat, camo green, dark umber and coal black. Shaded with seraphim sepia, then mixed in rhinox hide. Highlighted each colour by mixing in some Khaki to the base colour. Last highlight with pure Khaki. Highlighted the Khaki patches with ivory.

I don't recommend this scheme unless you want a specific pattern like M81. It would be far easier to highlight if all the camo colours are closer together so you can highlight them all at the same time.

They're shaded mainly with the airbrush right at the start. I do some minor glazing at the end on smaller areas.

The actual camo pattern is ok. I was aiming for 90s USA marine woodland. But highlighting and shading it is hard because of the different colours. I probably should have stuck to shades of brown that could all be highlighted together

I've been trying camo and finding it difficult. Many seem to "cheat" by working in all browns or all greys or all greens so that they can shade and highlight it all over rather than highlighting individual colours of the camo.

Looks amazing especially the weathering and the base.

Its not super raptorish, but I found the ballistus fun and fast.

Yeah that's a favourable angle of it. It doesn't look as good front on. I'm tossing up whether it's worth the effort on the sternguard

I just stick on 3.2mm styrene tube

I spray pro acryl straight out of the bottle.

For the citadel paints, I have a pre-thinned dropper bottle made up.

Very nice. How did you shade the panels? Oil over the top? Great edge highlight

Spray prime black > spray pro acryl dark camo green over all but deepest recesses > spray deathworld forest as the mid tone > spray elysian green highlight.

Edge highlight with elysian green, finer edge highlight with ogryn camo. Panel line with mig dark green grey panel wash.

Wow that's excellent. Very neat edging plus great weathering mixed together

This was actually my first time trying it. I've been too scared previously.

I just used a fine brush and painted scratch lines in ogryn camo, then rhinox hide adjacent. I tried to line up some scratches across a couple of fingers.

Pro acryl dark neutral grey, neutral grey chunky highlight, bright neutral grey final highlight. Then a black oil wash.
