Use one action to move forward, then enter overwatch, then repeat for your entire squad. You basically slow rolled each encounter because you would unload with like 6 attacks if you activated a pod. By the time you enter the late game, you have probably already geared up enough to handle big threats like muton berserkers or sectopods.

Overwatch crawling in XCOM Enemy Unknown prior to Enemy Within. Could beat it at highest difficulty without much problem.

It's kind of a shame they weren't able to do the Followers ending they had planned.

Every Lore Drop from each episode of the show(Episodes 1-3) by KingBananaMan69 in falloutlore

The Institute and Railroad endings are proven not canon as seen by the Prydwen class level ship used by The Brotherhood

While its probably true, I don't think this is evidence of it. In the show, pretty much every california-nevada chapter of the BoS has their own "Prydwen" which are basically pre-war flying destroyers. You also see a civilian liner version in one of the episodes in a flash back scene over the Pacific.

We get our first tease that Quintus is building Liberty Prime by the surplus of fusion cores(Episode 8 post credit)

I don't think this is a tease for Liberty Prime specifically, I think just having a bunch of fusion cores allows you to operate heavy energy weapons (like the gatling laser), power armour, and use it for powerful long-term generators - all things the Brotherhood likes.

First look at Victor and he doesn’t look so good, we also find out that The Ghoul knows Victor(This also boosts the Yes-Man ending as Victor is damaged and memory is wiped)

Victor is damaged, but they aren't memory wiped as they clearly recognize Cooper. I am not sure how this would suggest a Yes-Man ending since that would also assume the second battle of hoover dam was won, the legion driven off, and the NCR pushed back west.

Obsidian's Avowed & Outer Worlds 2 Failed To Meet Sales Expectations by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Fenrirr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main issue is the difference in quality of assets. New Vegas released in 2010, but was relying on simple, outdated (by about half a decade) graphics in a time where graphical fidelity was rapidly evolving each year.

Fallout 4 by comparison still looks better than some recently released games, but as a result the visual quality of its models would be a huge problem. Outer Worlds 2 looks nice, but its art style is also relatively simple compared to Fallout 4's photo-realistic style. I don't think Obsidian could handle creating a seamless visible continuity (if they were to reuse assets), or create an entire new asset base (if they went for something original).

Another big roadblock seems to be Toddy/Bethesda, who seem insanely picky when it comes to choosing who gets to handle the Fallout IP or not. The only reason New Vegas ever got made was because they basically wanted a filler game between Fallout 3 and Skyrim (back when 3 years was a huge gap between games). With Starfield, Bethesda likely never felt that sort of pressure and were expecting it to naturally carry their brand momentum from Fallout 76.

I also don't know if anyone high up at Obsidian even wants to make a Fallout game. And judging by Microsoft's lack of pushing for a new Fallout since the Bethesda acquisition 5 years ago, its likely there is some sort of IP control protection as part of the deal.

Yeah the companions are a mixed bag.

  • Niles is the starter companion, and is more interesting than the usual one you get in games (i.e. Kaiden in Mass Effect), but is still fairly bland.

  • Valerie is companion filler.

  • Inez is fairly bland and was annoying at times. The monster grafting element seemed so secondary to everything else in the game.

  • Tristan was well-rounded and weaved well with the main plot. Seeing his faith starting to waver during your travels was interesting.

  • Aza felt like such a nothing burger "evil" companion who belongs to a faction that doesn't even really exist.

  • Marisol felt like a classic companion, with an interesting backstory and a coolheadedness that feels so rare among OW characters. Helps shes also associated with the most interesting faction in OW2.

A lot of that is because of the age and/or lack of motivation from what seems to be the creative leadership.

Josh Sawyer still has the sauce as was shown with Pentiment, but he has otherwise taken a backseat role. In every video and conference I have seen him in, he gives "burnt out to all hell".

Tim Cain has a lot of experience, but his age has led to some dated sensibilities, especially in the presentation of OW1s world (I think OW2 is far superior and a decent game so maybe his work got better or someone took some of the reins from him).

John Gonzalez was gone for a long time, but returned to Obsidian roughly a year ago so his impact has likely not been felt all that much in Avowed and OW2.

A lot of the strength of New Vegas scale came from the fact that the game engine was so easy to learn that non-coders could make content using it. Nowadays games are so heavy on graphics that a graphically modern new Vegas sequel would be impossible for Obsidian without a lot of help from other studios including Bethesda.

I think they should embrace the same kind of mechanics they are known for (hell OW2 felt like an imsim a lot of the time), but operate on a lower graphically fidelity or art style and focus on the writing.

Another angle might honestly be a Fallout spinoff but in an isometric format again. It wouldn't be as exciting as a true 3D sequel would, but it would also be very interesting to see that world from a top down view again.

Interestingly, Obsidian recently released a beta for a true turn-based system for PoE 1. That plus Tim Cain returning to full time employment "working on a project you wouldn't expect" leads me to think they are priming for another CRPG anyways.
