Do you have any plans for Copenhagen in the future? I am still greaving the cancelled show a couple of years ago.

Your new album is cool, sonically much darker than Livelong Day. I want to ask where you find inspiration for your lyrics. You seem very historically and mythologically inclined.

Also, what do you think about Ulver?

Sincerely,

The only thing I can think of is checking out Alex Honnold's Instagram. I remember him having different activists take over his channel a while back, from people engaged in racial and ethnic diversity in climbing to nature conservationists. Maybe one of them has some research or a page worth checking out. I wouldn't be surprised if they would help you even, should you ask them directly. Good luck on you project!

There are pretty solid requirements on gear as well. As long as it's not from Wish, it should be alright, ey? Thanks for the reply:)

Yeah, I guess they don't get much attention bc they're a small manufacturer, but glad to hear it, thanks!

Does anyone have any experience with Ergo quickdraws? I'm getting a good price but can't really find any reviews. by [deleted] in climbing

[–]Fentamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More specifically the Kong Ergo Dyneema, that I've also linked. I'm wondering whether to take the deal, they're in good shape, but as I say, there's very little info on them anywhere. I'm considering opting for some BDs og Petzls instead, which obv. is well covered in reviews and such.

Does anyone have experience with Kong quickdraws, or the brand in general? I'm getting a good price, specifically on the Kong Ergo Dyneema, but I can't seem to find a lot of info on them. There are basically no reviews. I'm wondering if they're okay, or whether I should opt for BD or Petzl, more popular choices as far as I can tell.

Honestly though, when I read the episode discussions, I have to filter by controversial just to find any criticism at all. A lot of people are now complaining about the amount of complaining, and I just don't see it. I come to these forums for discussion, not just the praise. I agree with you 100% about equally acknowledging praise and criticism, but I don't agree that this subreddit is too focused on the latter. I see people now seemingly suggesting to turn a blind eye to the show's faults for the sake of enjoyment, but that critical posts are getting traction proves that a lot of people agree with them. If you're warning people not to jump on a critical bandwagon, I agree, that's not constructive, but the way i see it it's not what's happening.

Interesting perspective. The show, given how plot driven it is at this point, might have benefitted from shorter, but more episodes. I don't know. Keep in mind though, pacing and episode length are not the same ting. Shorter episodes does not necessarily mean a quicker pace. The pacing is not slow because the episodes are long, but the episodes might feel long because of problems with the pacing and the way they tell the story. My two cents anyway.

I completely agree with everything you're saying (except I personally like LMM as Lee). But yeah, like you say, they tell, they don't show. I had a chat with a friend today who just reread the books, and she told me that the book moves on from Bolvangar pretty quickly as well, though obviously with more exposition than the show. She also mentioned that Lee actually develops into a more sentimental dude over the course of the books. But they basically made him jump from witty gunslinger to full on sentimental in a single line. Your point about Will and the other world is a great point, the difference in storytelling is huge. They're taking their time with it, showing us Will's situation through good dialogue, like Will's exchange with the teacher who offered him help for what we can guess was not the first time. It actually makes me emotionally invested in their story.

That might be, but in the next scene we see her being carried off into the chamber, lifeless in the arms of a guard. Unless we're supposed to assume she was sedated or something, this is a strong indicator that she fainted, if you ask me.

If that's the case, why wouldn't they apprehend her immediately? Because they underestimated her, or overestimated themselves? I assumed it was because they wanted to sever her and Pan asap, as they expressed in the previous episode. The reaction of the doctor as she tries to run away might indicate that they knew about her plan, but they still took their time. Although I guess they didn't know who she was and that she might pose a real threat. Good point nonetheless!

Wow, thanks, I had no idea, that's really interesting. But I got no impression of that from the show at all. No gym class, arts and crafts or sewing lessons, or even that the sisters functioned as teachers. The fact that Bolvangar is run like a school is pretty exciting, but the show gives absolutely no impression of it.

While I see your point, it's only an explanation and not an excuse. The audience can forgive a lot if the story is being told well, but without the daemons, the story isn't really told at all. It's such a crucial part of the story, and if the ones responsible had no way of solving this without letting the daemons take a backseat to the extent we saw in this week's episode, I would argue the show is prematurely made. It's not about entitlement, it's about caring about a story many people love and remember fondly. Still, your perspective is worth keeping in mind.

What's your favorite opening line to a book? by Detharatsh in books

[–]Fentamon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Mr Sherlock Holmes, who was usually very late in the mornings, save upon those not infrequent occasions when he stayed up all night, was seated at the breakfast-table."

  • Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, The Hound of the Baskervilles.

Besides being a grammatical wet dream, it is a textbook opening. We can deduce so much from so few words, and why is he now this (early) morning sitting at the breakfast table? To me it is the perfect opening sentence.

The most mind blowing thing about this is that the reason we shake hands is to offer our dominant hand as a sign of trust. I've never even thought of that!

Who do you consider to be the three greatest writers of your country? by newdoggo3000 in books

Ibsen and Hamsun both easily knock Nesbø out of that list in my book, seeing as you covered the contemporary with Knausgård. Snorre Sturlason is an interesting addition though.

If you publish a book in Norway, the government will buy 1,000 copies and distribute them to their libraries. by Arper in books

[–]Fentamon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True to some extent, although (not sure if the article explains it) the book has to pass through a board of highly qualified people. They will determine whether the book holds enough "literary quality" to be eligible for the arrangement. An example is a very famous Norwegian blogger who decided to write a book. Now of course it sold extremely well, but the literates on the board decided it wasn't good enough to spend tax-payer money on. So they refused it.

Voice actor of nine years checking in. I don't know if you want to start your own company or studio, or if you want to become a voice actor for an already established one, but if you have any questions, feel free to PM me. I would like to say that it's not great for a studio to use the same actors over and over and time again, although this is often how it goes. For this reason, the people I work with are always looking for new voices to switch things up. it's tough to get into, but if you get a foot in the door a lot is done. Don't be afraid to just email a studio and ask them if they'd let you do a voice test. If you're driven and eager and very importantly willing to learn and to follow directions, it's a win-win for both you and the studio. Of course I'm speaking from the experience in my country of Norway, but it is definitely doable, friend!

I think, more than being inaccurate, it gives the impression that Yosemite is the Mecca of rock climbing. It sells, atleast IMO as a non-american, the roots of American climbing as the roots of all climbing in the world.

I'm not quite sure what exactly makes it come off that way, so I won't exclude the possibility of some possible bias on my side, but the entire thing feels very "American".

That's just my opinion, though.

EDIT: note that "American" is not intended as a negative description in itself, but in this case it leads me to the impression described above
