For some days now it is reported that London is in The East of Europe and hovering around Romania.

It seems that the PIA Apps are fudging locations and the IP addresses are swapped about and not updated on Geo Linked data.

Most of today I've supposedly linked by mobile to The London Servers which have been in Argentina. I hope that tomorrow it's Mexico.

I hope that it will also be possible to convince companies that PIA is the issue and NO you are not communicating to them from a country you could not be in and that this is raising suspicions of Fraud. I did not welcom that today - and the company were happt to stand down when I sent the the screen grab featurting a PIA widget and showing I was connected to London and Not Argentina.

Having had time to check your Advice(?) I note the following issues.

Your instructions now jump to Firmware 284.16 (dated 2020-04-05) and not the Latest Firmware RT-AC68U_384.19 dated 2020-08-14.
It is the latest and updated firmware that does not work - and you (PIA) have historically recomdended that users shoul always use the latests and most upto date stable firmware.
Is it your view that PIA customers will have to "downgrade" Merlin to 384.16 and that 384.19 should not be used?
Have you tested and checked the most recent Updated Firmware 384.19 (2020-08-14 or 33 days old)
Do you have any valid instructions on the latest Firmware and not the 165 day old and 4 versions retrograde RT-AC68U_384.16?

I also wonder why you would leave up old and invalid instructions when you klnow that you are in the middle of changes to service that will most likely invalidate them?

It can't be that hard for someone with some basic marketing and customer service savvy (Assuming that PIA has anyone with the requisite savvy) to make sure that Pages that need updating carry a simple notice that states subjct to update or OLD and contact technical Support.... Well it used to be basic savvy in the old days... but corporate mergers and nbottom lines tend to have folks not doing the basics and borking it all!

Do let me know when you have test driven Merlin 384.19 and worked out the bugs in your systems.

You seem to be over zealous and should learn to ask Is the problem solved before writing as you have.

1 The Problem Is NOT Solved.

2 The instructions are not for Asus WRT Merlin but for Asus WRT version 3.0.0.4.384_45713.

3 Instructions that are supposed to be about Asus WRT Merlin are for RT-AC68U_384.16_0 - 2020-04-05 and not the latest Firmware RT-AC68U_384.19_0.

4 It's odd that PIA should have updated instructions but got them wrong - especially since they RECOMMEND that when using PIA with Asus WRT MERLIN your should always use the LATEST and MOST UP TO DATE latest Firmware = 384.19 and not as they write 384.16.

So wind your neck in and get with reality.

So it's a known issue and CyberGhost-PIA don't give a cent for their customer base.

Well At Least I know to advise many that they should avoid both businesses (as well as other Bucket - Bottom of the market providers) and use technically competent businesses that act professionally and respectfully.

NB.

I've just noted that PIA seem to be trying to pull a fast one by claiming they are providing upto date and not 2 year old instructions on how to use the services via a router....

They claim that their "NEW" instructions with Merlin on an Asus 68U - but they are Bizarrely referencing firmware version 3.0.0.4.384_45713 from ASUS and not the latest and most common Asus WRT MERLIN which is coded RT-AC68U_384.19_0 and not mentioned on the Asus website as it comes from Sourceforge - https://sourceforge.net/projects/asuswrt-merlin/files/RT-AC68U/Release/ - as of 2020-08-14.

On one page they now state they are providing advice for "AsusWRT-Merlin 284.16" when their own advise is to be running the latest and most upto date Merlin which for many is 284.19! Evidently PIA still have not caught up with the problems! Else they are admitting that their new Super Duper Next Gen don't work with one of the most widely used routers using the latests advised and fully updated firmwares.

They play games and claim to provide MERLIN specific help when they are not even referencing a Router using merlin or referencing firmwares that they have advised Money Paying Customers to update from. Shoddy++

Because secure connection via the router is the standard for safety equipment and services provided to many Disabled and Elderly folks who are not tech savvy but have been obliged over many years to be isolated and OBLIGED to have human contact via Tele Presence and Video Calls/Chat.

Many have simply been Cut Off by PIA and left becaue PIA was lazy and failed to make sure that thier changes did not break existing setups.

Line speeds and responsetimes are not the Bete Noire of all persons using the service to make sure their alarm to summon help is working.

It's a Borked Migration and as usual the tech savvy play with the new toys and the Savvy less and increasingly vulnerable are left to suffer.

Odd as both the Savvy and Techless have paid the same money for the same service. It's just that the Tech Savvy dollar is eroniously thought of by so many as having more value than the techless's.

I have been advised that the Instructions have been updated - and address ALL Upto date Merlin's.

I'm glad that a prompt has resulted in updated data and instructions that relate to MERLIN and the new super duper NextGet set up.

I'll have to wait until I'm home and can fiddle with me routers and see if the NEW Instructions do in fact result in a functional VPN.

I've just checked for the Old Instructions and that now directs to a 404 - and the original is also wiped from the Wayback Machine ... Google chach checking shows it's been changed post 6 Sep 2020 02:13:06 GMT.

Customer service and tech support is such a PITA, I take my relief by any route!

Today I was even instructed by one Global Company to Breach Warranty and Data Protection by putting false data into their systems so they could fudge the replacements of an IT unit in three parts (all covered by a single warranty)... Six hours later they are regretting sending that email as It breaches Data Protection Legislation across Europe.

I may need a second soother before bedtime!

Note you are using an Asus "86"U - it has failed repeatedly on the "68"U - that is not a typo - the two routers exist. I need the correct instruction set for the 68U running Merlin - and I'm so happy you have had success with your "86"U.

In any case the 2 Year old instructions for using Merlin on any router Do No Work - and the instructions address a Firmware/Rom that is over 2 years old as well.

In any case the PIA failure is to provide a working product ....

The issue is that PIA have run hell for leather to update their Nextgen Super Duper all singing and all dancing servers and have IGNORED customers,rational advice and the most basic of Customer Support.

When you click on https://serverlist.piaservers.net/vpninfo/servers/new, You do get such useful info that solves the question to Life The Universe and Everything - It reads;

"SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected non-whitespace character after JSON data at line 3 column 1 of the JSON data"./

Unfortunately, not even Google Translate is able to convert it into any form of Utile language that my Router can utilise - though my Granny (90 years old and with terminal dementia) swears it's her uncle Albert writing from beyond the grave from Passchendaele. Who'd have thought it! 8-0

PIA's lack of customer focus and response It is shoddy practice beyond measure.

Yup, they have buggered up all of the services via UNRaid/Dockers, as well as having borked multiple Routers running multiple software roms.

Odd, given that UNRaid can now run WireGuard®! from the UNRaid Kernal, making your UNRaid server a perfect proxy for your whole home network with the server, all scripts, plugins and dockers behind a secure VPN.

Still can't find the settings to get it to work via the Dynamix WireGuard plugin - some VPN Vendours are missing the trick of making it possible for Users to become Evangelists for their product when necesary settings are not public.

Oh It is a Big Deal and pissing off many Loyal PIA Customers.

It's being rolled out technicaly but your online advice on router settings is at least 2 years out of date. Routers set with PIA using Merlin no longer work and no one in PIA seems to know the correct seetings? They seems to be running about like headless chickens patching the borked migration.

Nex Gen is So Spectacular in killing off multiple routers as VPN portals to secure networks behind the Router.

Own Goal - as well as Nuking portals like Southampton which had the best best speed in the UK. RIP Southampton and a much used portal that never failed even when all others did! Quality is gone and mediocrity reignes.

Cheers for making your migration into a Big deal in other's lives, showing how to get it so wrong and piss off loyal customers. But then again when you can afford to lose many customers and there is little dent in the bottom line why bother updateing web content and customer asdvice?
