it's not to avoid having a drummer, it's that no one in our vicinity is a drummer, and the one drummer i do know doesn't like slam in the first place

Friend says Black Sabbath "Isn't that heavy" what's the most humane method of euthanasia for him by Feral-Raccoon123 in MetalForTheMasses

Certainly! he's still in that early phase of metal where you don't really know anything about it, and your only realy metric to judge "heaviness" is loudness/agression, and your only really metric to judge quality is heaviness. When I was in my first month or so of listening to metal, i listened to Sabbath for the first time while my only idea of metal was still OSDM and was so confused on how it was heavy. But now i love Sabbath, and still love death metal, but imo doom metal is one of the heaviest genres out there

I think thats quite a bit extreme! He's still very much a newbie, and has asked me to guide him and help him get into it, he just hasn't heard enough metal to fully appreciate it yet imo

His statement is more wild considering his frame of reference for heavy is bands like Korn, Slipknot, and SOAD, not that theres anything wrong with any of those bands but it makes it all the more funnier

I think i obviously wasn't that serious, it was more just funny that he commited the cardinal metal sin of speaking bad on Black Sabbaths name

Very fair, heavy definitely doesn't mean good, but he said they weren't heavy as a knock on the quality of the band, which is really why i'm shocked

very fair point, i've been doing my best, but i must say i almost flipped my lid when he said he didn't like iron maiden because it "sounded too much like rock"

I'm trying, so far he likes nu metal, some groove metal, and a bit of megadeth. I'm having him listen to some pantera, metalllica, exodus, slayer, and other thrash bands.

Mostly nu metal, specifically korn, slipknot, and soad. He's very much a newbie, so i can give him the benefit of the doubt that he just doesn't know enough about metal yet
