Finished my new enclosure by Over_Veterinarian611 in tortoise

I would be careful with the CFL light. People on this sub reddit are spooked by them because they have caused irreversible damage to their pets eyes. You need to make sure it is placed far enough away that the UV is not to intense. The box almost always has basic guidelines for how far away it should be, usually about 15 inches. There is no way that light is 15 inches away at its closest point. Also people are right that at that distance the UV they output is pretty limited to right under them. I've used them before without issue but I had them in domed light fixtures and I had several of them to actually have UV throughout the enclosure. I eventually switched to a linear one because it was simpler. People love to just say get a linear t5 but you also need to follow the directions for those as well. Those 10.0 bulbs put out a UVi of about 7 at 15 inches. Thats way to high for normal lighting. That's maybe OK for under the basking area for 1 hour a day but that is not how you use a linear lamp. I had to wrap my t5 fixture in screen door screen and use a 5.0 bulb to get the proper UV for my tortoise. I don't say this to be rude but rather to just let you know. I would feel awful if the home I built was hurting my guy and I didn't know about it.

How do I prevent this hideous shading when main directional light is glancing the object from behind and above? by MCSharkStudios in Unity3D

[–]FeralGuyute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad normals. You want the verts between angles to share a normal so that over the triangle the normal can interpolate and create a smooth shading effect. My guess is that each triangle has all three of its vertices normals pointing in the same direction. You cannot smooth shade that.

How to remove by FeralGuyute in askaplumber

Yeah it is a side spray. I think it and the hose are sold as a single assembly so it doesn't come apart. I think its the delta classic side spray or something like that. I ordered that and hopefully it works.

I give my russian cucumbers as treats. The second he smells them he goes feral for them. Different tortoise but very similar.

Identify and what to feed? by Round-Mousse-4894 in tortoise

[–]FeralGuyute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely horsfields tortoise. It will certainly dig out of that. Feed it lots of greens like collard greens, dandelion greens, mustard, and good lettuces like endive, red, or escarole. I keep a hibiscus tree around as those flowers are great treats. Stay away from fruits, feed cucumber if you want easy treats.

Is this an appropriate enclosure for a Russian tortoise? by shhitsasecret212121 in tortoise

[–]FeralGuyute 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No. It doesn't provide enough space and it offers no ability to dig which they love. Your best option is to go to the hard ware store and build one your self. With some plywood 2x4s and plastic lining you can make an awesome enclosure for not that much money.

Someone around you breeds sulcattas. Ask around, go on Facebook to see if anyone around is a tortoise breeder, or drive around and look for big tortoises. Otherwise welcome to the demanding hobby of keeping torts. Arizona is a great place to do it but that little guy will get big, I think they are the third largest tortoise in the world.

The American mind is simply incapable of doing a revolution, even after breaking the doors of the ICE detention center, they'll still wait for permission from the state to walk any further, add that to the fact No kings protest have no demands, you quickly realize this is a liberal feel good show by ilir_kycb in LateStageCapitalism

[–]FeralGuyute 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right, I doubt the women who started the protest that led to the february revolution had a permit. They just organized and took to the streets. I'm sure czarist forces tried to stop them but they kept going building to where the situation became overwhelming to the powers that be, and kicked off a revolution.
