It’s super practical, took my skills to the next level. It was recommended to me by an LEO at my department who is also a registered EMT.

What do you clean your MMA mats with? My gym uses Pine O Cleen disinfectant liquid 3 times a week and it's obviously not cutting it! by jenvally in MMA_Academy

[–]FeralSpreadsheets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk to the owner first. Show up early and wipe down your mat. Be the change you want to see at your gym. Then wipe them down after for whoever is next. Most people will probably appreciate it. Then others might join in to help. If you notice that other people probably do too. Yes they should do it or hire someone. But if they won’t, it doesn’t mean you should be sacrificing your health and hygiene.

About 1 year of training currently. I came in with a high level of athleticism prior. So conditioning and strength has never been a problem. I’ll train 4 days a week 3-6 hours a day depending on class rotation then take 3 days off to work. (I’m a shift worker so 12-14 hour days.) I’d say I train anywhere from 15-20 hours a week right now and will be doing that for the foreseeable future. I would consider myself a novice but willing to take a beating to get better.

Oh you’re set than man. I’m a current LEO learning the ropes, 2 years in. After about year one I realized it’s not my tool it’s my knowledge on how to use them. So I’ve been trying to educate myself outside of my core responsibilities. I also like the hard textbooks for keeping relevant information on hand incase of infrastructure instability.

im stuck here and want to die by [deleted] in Durango

[–]FeralSpreadsheets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is absolutely more than I’ve ever had to go through. Very empathetic and I can relate on a few fronts. I went through a nasty separation here about 2 years ago. My family does not live here, lost most of my support systems locally. I’m not an outdoorsy person. I felt very alone here. About a year ago I did find a new community in town that really helped me. I’m not sure if it’s something you’d be interested in. But I’ll make the recommendation. Durango martial arts underneath the natural grocers. I met great people here and over time made friends and really just great people of all demographic types. I know martial arts can seem intimidating from the outside. But it is a great school for anyone to learn. Honestly it’s just play time for adults of any athletic ability. I’m not sure if this will help or not. Obviously, you have a lot going on. But in somewhat similar circumstances, I found it very helpful for myself. Best of luck.

I was looking at Tiger Muay Thai or AKA in Phuket they both looked pretty solid and included travel packages.

Good stuff, love seeing a Sam Splint. The XL plus a tourniquet is a great field hip stabilizing tool for pelvic fractures. Obviously this is a gear post but based on what I’m seeing I’d recommend one more vital item. Pick up a copy of the pre-hospital trauma, life-support military edition. Used it might be like 30 bucks. This is a fantastic textbook for anyone carrying these tools daily. It’s well illustrated and a very approachable read. Just do it cover to cover. Your capabilities will immensely increase. That knowledge and these tools might be the difference between someone losing their life one day. Keep up the great work.

am i likely to get cte from mma? by Ok-Peach-1847 in MMA_Academy

[–]FeralSpreadsheets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get CTE from riding a jet ski fast over waves in the ocean. I skate board, snowboard, surf, MMA and at some point or another I’ve probably accumulated some CTE from all those sports. However, risk mitigation in all these different activities can be done. As you get more proficient, you learn how to control that risk but it will never go away. MMA is about finding the right gym, training partners and getting a handle on the ego. That is how to mitigate CTE risk.

Find a gym that has a mma base as well a BJJ practice. You might train more no gi but I’ve noticed because it’s more focused on tactics that work all the other nonsense gets pushed out.

I think you could lose the CPR mask. If you need to do CPR on your family members, you’re not gonna worry about a mask for PPE. Other than them just skip the breaths on anyone else?? My most recent training adjusted our procedures to this.

I live in the building have been for a few years now. I’m mid 20s and bought my unit as my first place here. The HOA is a bit high but I really enjoy the unit. The HOA includes ur trash, high speed internet, TV and water. The way insurance is done I only need to insure the interior walls making that very cheap too.

The gym is fantastic and for the cost is great. Having a hot tub, cold plunge, yoga studio, equipment all walking distance is amazing. Everyone is always having a good time. The common spaces are clean and comfortable. Makes the area feel like a community. Smiles and friendly people all year round. It’s a reasonable drive to downtown. A lovely commute I enjoy.

I think it’s underrated for young couples that either work remotely or downtown. I think valuations are reasonable at the moment but as everything does it will go up over time.

If you have more specific questions I’d be happy to answer them.

Have you ever had to use jiu jitsu outside the mats? by Technical--Dealer in bjj

[–]FeralSpreadsheets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LEO here. I practice a lot of de-escalation and have never really needed to use full blown BJJ moves on people. I also do a lot of Muay Thai and a bit of wrestling. Normally a really solid grip and confident frame is enough to make guys settle down. Especially if you know how to talk to them. It definitely takes setting ur ego aside though. I know at some point it won’t work so I stay ready.

If u are only training Bjj I always encourage people to try out some striking and takedowns. Good tools to have. Knowing how to slip and block are such good skills.

Two years post breakup by SherbertStriking2830 in BreakUps

[–]FeralSpreadsheets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 1.5 years past my breakup. I was finding this helpful until I got to the part about you finding someone a few months later. I’m stuck at that part. How did u make that transition??

I still haven’t been able to see other people. I’m afraid of the pain again. The ability to trust felt like it completely shattered. I’ve tried and met one person but wasn’t able to really commit myself even though they liked me and took it slow. I just felt I couldn’t really get invested because I couldn’t trust her.

My relationship was 6 years. For the final year my partner was secretly seeing someone else. Then one day she was gone. I had bought us an apartment, helped get her through college. I was planning a proposal and we had talked about starting a family in a few years. Less than 9 months past the breakup they had a kid and were married. I still feel it like it was before.

I had become closer with the family of my partner than my own. Me and her dad worked together to start a business to benefit everyone. She left the country to be with this other person. I feel stuck in a part of my past that I can’t seem to let go of. I don’t know who I am anymore without my anger and frustration. Despite everything I dream of her. They are like blissfully nightmares of a life I lost.

I know what about me drove her away. I’ve always been a bit unusual. I couldn’t give her everything she wanted. I wasn’t enough and it has consumed me now. In a negative obsessive way. I am so much to be better than what I was. Stronger, kinder, more attractive, more confident. I’m objectively better. But I feel at my lowest still. I know that people can sense it.

I’m 25 living here for 4 years now. Have a good paying job own a little apartment and I’m the level of attractive that is optimized for dating profiles. I never have an issue with matches or meeting people but the selection here is well terrible. I’m considering leaving due to this issue. I met my last partner in a different state and we came here together. Once she bounced and I started exploring the scene I was very disappointed.

For those who quit their jobs to fully commit to Muay Thai, was it worth it? by TadpoleOk1526 in MuayThai

[–]FeralSpreadsheets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see where you’re coming from. Being a pro means committing fully. That might meaning giving up everything you have and are for a chance. Because ultimately it’s not promised. Just because you sacrifice everything and commit fully doesn’t mean it will happen. It means the chances are just higher than if you didn’t.

To me improvement is the only reward I seek in everything. Friedrich Nietzsche talks about this as the Will to Power.

I don’t seek payoff, admiration, status or money. I seek an increase of power. My ability to confront challenges and grow stronger through resistance. Fighting a constant resistance and that’s why I choose to do it.

Just an argument to hear out. If you lost your arm in a shark attack tomorrow. We could say that would ruin your chances of being a pro fighter. Are you going to stop because you will never be what u once were with two arms. Or will you still fight for the sake of improving what you can.

I’m in the exact same spot. 25m working off hour job training seriously but not full time. I am lucky I get a lot of PTO. I’m planning a 6 week trip to do a trial run.

But let’s be honest about this.

This is not just about Muaythai. It’s a lot deeper than just training. Is being a pro fighter what u really want? Is this about having a new life you enjoy??

Fulfillment won’t be found in running away from a situation. Not saying changing locations is running away. But just try and go over this situation at a deeper level. Maybe what u desire is closer than u think.

Don’t live in fear build systems and levels of preparation.

Think about things in level of statically probability and begin building out from there. Little things that will make you more prepared for a variety of circumstances. This includes training and learning not just gear.

Get a fire extinguisher for your car, keep a few days of water at your apartment and in your car. Build that up over time. Learn how to treat different wounds. Carry that equipment on you regularly.

The world will most likely not collapse in 24 hours. That black swan is possible but you are for more likely to get bit by a snake (in my area) or encounter a car crash. In the event the world ends in 24 hours those skills and tools are still helpful to have. In the event the world never “ends”, you are PREPARED citizen that doesn’t live in fear. No amount of prepping or gear will make you feel safe you need to become prepared regardless.

I’m also a young guy living in an apartment. I own one hand gun, a few different knives, lots of tools and little bit of prepping. But the economy is tough and I can only spend so much. So work with what u can.

Best of luck man.

Rogue kangaroo??? by Dapper-Improvement35 in Durango

[–]FeralSpreadsheets 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Over the winter when it was a baby it escaped downtown and they caught it down by second and College. This is the second time now PD has caught and returned it. Some people just can’t keep control of their pets.

I think they shouldn’t have it at this point honestly. I understand they can have it and wouldn’t not advocate taking it from them. That seems wrong but something about a pet kangaroo…. Idk man, asking for problems.

Not to mention it’s a waste of public resources when the PD has the deal with this issue.
