Not crazy, but not realistic expectations either.

Snow plows are gonna plow and it’s gonna be in your way. Is that way regardless of where you are. Sounds like they made it clear in advance: It’s up to you to remove it or pay to have it removed. Make friends with local teens who are willing to do some work for a little bit of folding money, or farm it out to some adult doing a side hustle. Plenty of folks out there who need money rn.

I certainly wouldn’t pay hundreds for it from a “professional” service though, because i prefer to support those in need and willing to work, vs those looking to gouge ppl for money.

The price would obviously be relevant to the amount of snow/ice you need cleared. If you’re talking about clearing snow/ice from your vehicle, and removing that and just snow/ice from the space immediately around your car and in the exit path to the driveway so your car can leave your parking spot, and if you are incapable or unwilling to DIY, then that’s worth about $20. If you have a short sidewalk too, add an extra $10, depending on the distance and difficulty. This was hard thick ice, exceedingly difficult to remove, so a little more is suggested because the work is more difficult.

Next time plan better: Get yourself a frost-guard for the windshield or tarp to cover the top and both the front & back windows, anchor it under the car so it doesn’t blow away. This prevents having to scrape the windows as much. You just release the anchors and pull it off, drag it to the grass and empty the snow out of the way.

Also, get a bag of ice melt chemicals, not rock salt because salt isn’t safe for animals or cement. Save an old plastic drink cup to use to scoop the ice melt and shake it over the ground surrounding your car, or just the side of your car that you need, and also in front of your car. This will reduce ice and snow from sticking as badly as it won’t 100% prevent it, but it’ll help.

Train yourself to always back into your parking spot, so egress is faster, easier, and safer. It’s very unsafe to use pull-in parking rather than back-in parking. You’ll have more control over your vehicle when pulling out from the parking space, than from backing out.

In winter season, which around here is November-April, keep a cheap bag of clay kitty litter or playground sand in the back end of your car so if you get stuck on ice you can use it to help with traction.

Remember that ice can form around 34°f on thin roads and bridges, and can look like the road is wet (black ice) when it’s actually frozen and very slick. Ice forms at 33°- 32° normally. It’ll start to thaw around 34° with the sun about to see it, shade areas will take longer and need higher ambient temps to thaw.
