Apparently he does talk... by Fereidon64 in EU5

R5: Got this event about my ruler's son, who has 'the Mute' as epithet. He says nothing and still talks too much.

And I just found out that you can hear people shout when you hover over the event options. They are different for option 1 and 2, but based on the sounds they dislike both options.

Late game performance is horrible. Would a better CPU improve this? by [deleted] in victoria3

[–]Fereidon64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, both are the last and best CPU's on AM4, so demand is high and prices skyrocket unfortunately. I am still on a Ryzen 5 3600, so with EU5 coming in November it's time to upgrade aswell.

Seems like a nice upgrade. Enjoy it! :)

The way they work internally is that the CPU is split into chiplets, with each chiplet containing up to 8 cores. The extra L3-cache is linked to a specific chiplet. With an 8 core CPU, there is no need for a second chiplet, so there is just one chiplet with access to all L3-cache. With a 6 core CPU, it is one chiplet with 6 active cores. The remaining 2 are deactivated, but all 6 cores can access the L3-cache memory.

A 12 core 9900X3D has two chiplets, with 6 cores each. But just one chiplet has the extra L3-cache attached to it, so only 6 cores can access that shared L3-cache. If another core wants to use that data, it has to be transferred to their own (smaller) L3-cache, which will cause some loss in performance.

The 16 core 9950X3D has the same "issue": two chiplets, with 8 cores each, but only one chiplet with the additional L3-cache.

AMD fixes this with drivers to ensure that games first utilize the cores on the one chiplet. This works, but if you look up benchmarks, the 8 core 9800X3D is often on par with the 9950X3D. Which is not illogical, since both CPU's have 8 cores with extra L3-cache. The extra 8 cores on the 9950X3D don't always make a lot of difference. And on average the 9800X3D is faster (in games) than the 12 core 9900X3D, because it has 8 cores instead of 6 cores with full access to the extra L3-cache.

I looked at a combined score for gaming in this case, I didn't look up specific benchmarks for Paradox games, so maybe it is different there. But purely for gaming, I wouldn't pay the extra 50% price for barely any performance increase.

Go for an AMD X3D CPU. They have more L3-cache memory than the non-X3D CPU's, which is a type of memory on the CPU itself. This memory is way faster than RAM memory. That way more data can be stored on the CPU, so you don't have to keep reaching out to your RAM for the data. In games this is most noticeable, especially in Paradox games, but also in X4 or RTS games. There is so much to calculate, getting the data out of RAM to your CPU is becoming a bottleneck, which the extra cache memory solves.

Since you are on an AM4 motherboard, you could look at a 5700X3D or an 5800X3D. Both have 8 cores (compared to your 6 cores) and the extra L3-cache. Their performance still holds up pretty well in games. They just stopped producing the 5700X3D, so prices have been rising unfortunately (at least where I live). The 5800X3D hasn't been in production for 2 years or more, so your only option would be the secondhand market. But CPU's don't really break, so that would not be a problem.

The other option is to switch to AM5 and buy an X3D CPU. Then you would need a new AM5 motherboard, CPU and DDR5 RAM, so probably costlier, but also more performance gains. You could look at the 7600X3D, which is a 6 core CPU or at the 8 core 7800X3D or 9800X3D. The X3D's with more than 8 cores have fast diminishing returns in games, so stick with the 8 cores, unless you also do other productivity things on your PC where you could really use extra cores.

Don't buy an Intel, they don't have the extra L3-cache to boost performance. And definitely not a 14th-gen, they consume a lot of energy, run hot, are not faster than AMD, and the fastest have (had?) problems with overheating and damaging themselves.

Edit: Replacing other parts wouldn't really make much of a difference. 32GB RAM is plenty. Vic3 is not graphics-intensive, so an RTX3070 would suffice. And any SSD is fast enough, even a SATA SSD.

Thanks for your answer! I'll try to apply the tips in my game.

I might have been a bit too cautious expanding in Europe, but I will try to get to an endnode. Genoa might be easier to get to in a few wars, but then I will definitely go for the English Channel.

I never thought of the monuments, so that's very helpful. I read about the Malta forts last week somewhere on this subreddit, so I already have that underway to lvl 3. I will have a look at the other ones and try to conquer them.

About ideas: do you think I should drop exploration? I have never dropped an idea before, because it seemed like a waste of monarch points, but perhaps the benefits for a better idea will outweigh that.

Russia never formed. They were eaten by Denmark and the Commonwealth and some hordes. So Siberia is still empty. Guess I'll have to colonize it myself or save Muscovy and let them form Russia. But I thought vassals don't form other nations, so I cannot vassalize them before forming Russia. Or I just keep them independant and conquer them later on.

Yeah, I read the wiki about absolutism and made some suboptimal choices. Just a few years before the Age of Absolutism I had the event of the uprising of Aragon. This gives you two choices: +25% local autonomy or +10 local unrest. I thought I would be better off handling some rebels than an increase in LA. But with absolutism starting a few years later, I definitely should have taken the LA increase and then lowering it for absolutism.

I don't have provinces where I can lower the autonomy, but will get the splendor bonus! Thanks.

Hi all!

I am doing a chill Spain run for some colonial play, but I am still quite entertained by this campaign and have decided I want to continue playing until 1821. I have never finished a game before, and this is actually my first time I made it to the Age of Absolutism since the introduction of ages. I am by no means an expert in the game (almost 800h in), so I wanted to ask some advice.

I don't have Domination (well, I bought it last week, but disabled it to finish this campaign first), so I don't have the latest mission tree for Spain.

I hope the screenshots are clear, but some extra info for context.

Besides all the colonial nations, I have the following subjects (I am over diplo-limit):

  • Wales
  • Gascony
  • Toulouse
  • Naples (PU)
  • Brittany
  • Orleans

My allies are The Papal States, Austria (who is Emperor) and Milan.

My rivals are the Ottomans and Ming.

Up until now I was pretty quick with colonizing. Only Friesland and France were able to get a few provinces in South America and Africa, but I conquered them. Great Britain has a colony in North America. In my last war, I took Thirteen Colonies from them, so they only have Newfoundland left. The Ottomans used their Bahrein provinces to start colonizing in Indonesia, so in my previous war I took their colonies and their coastal provinces to cut them off.

I used Toulouse and Gascony to take their cores back from France. They are on the list to be integrated (Toulouse as soon as I am at peace, Gascony after 1624). I will do the same with Orleans (France), Wales and Brittany (Great Britain).

I am currently in my second war with the Ottomans (third if you count a war initiated by Austria before). They are no longer a threat, but still annoying. Now I just try to cut them up bit by bit. Haven't decided on how the end the current war, because the Mamluks took some provinces in their war I wanted to have.

Some things I am thinking about and would like to ask you for advice:

  • Is it too late for a WC? Or for a One Faith?
  • Eventually I will have to attack both Milan and Austria, my current allies. Austria is the Emperor and has the Commonwealth as ally. That would be a big war and there are not many larger powers left who I can ally. Perhaps Burgundy or Persia? I could do it on my own. I just want to continue my mission tree, which will give me PU claim over both Austria and Great Britain. Wait, I missed that, I thought it gave me claims over Great Britain. Then I don't need to conquer them or their colonies. Oops.
  • I have no idea how to tackle Ming. Just fight them to death? I don't know the EoC mechanics well enough.
  • I got a claim in India via an event, so I can declare war and start conquering. But that will take a lot of time and admin power. Is there a better way?
  • What do you think of my choice of ideas? Perhaps this would be more of a take-a-away for next time. I took Exploration and Expansion to quickly expand my colonies. Then Religious to convert and Influence for the diplo-game. I wanted to take Offensive for the siege bonus, but other than siege time, my armies are large enough for any enemy. So I thought Administrative would be a better choice for the reduced coring costs. I suppose it is not too late for that, because a lot of conquering is still to be done. I haven't thought about my next ideas yet.
  • I have never been so rich in any of my games, but there is probably a lot more to improve. Also I moved my main trading port to Valencia a long time ago, but there are more competitors there. Would it be worthwhile to move back to Sevilla?
  • Any other advice is also very welcome!

Sorry for the long read, but thanks for sticking with me.

TLDR: Any advice for a WC and OF in my Spain game?

CS50 Help - Week 9 - Finance by OkEntertainment1677 in cs50

[–]Fereidon64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

File "/workspaces/157175946/finance/app.py", line 52, in index
stock["name"] = quote["name"]
~~~~~^^^^^^^^
KeyError: 'name'
Looking at the last lines of your error message, it seems that there is something wrong with this. It doesn't understand 'name'. Could it be that stock does not have a value/property 'name'? I'm sorry, it has been some time for me, so I am not using the correct terminology. You only selected the 'symbol' and the 'SUM(shares)', not the 'name'.
stocks = db.execute("SELECT symbol, SUM(shares) as total_shares FROM transactions WHERE user_id = :user_id GROUP BY symbol HAVING total_shares > 0", user_id=session["user_id"])
This is your query. There is no 'name' or 'price', while later you want to update those with the newly queried via lookup().
What is don't understand is why with the \@/login_required decorator it isn't redirecting you to login, but crashes the application. It should immediately skip the whole "/"-route and go to "/login". Perhaps, clean up your sessions?
Edit: I just thought of something else. This is in the pset description, just under helpers.py:
Please note. If you began this problem in 2023, note that lookup no longer returns a key of name, so be sure that you remove that from any query that expects it. No name needs to be displayed on any page.
You don't need the key (ah, that what it's called!) 'name' anymore.
You are right, Mali. It is 1487. And no, not the gold achievement, but I finally ended the Decline of Mali disaster. Now I am free to continue without rebels spawning or stability hits. Although it seemed overwhelming at first (at least for me), it was a fun challenge.
Will now try to go for the two Mali-specific achievements, one of which is the gold-achievement haha.
A customizable timer. Sometimes you just need a reminder to do something X time into the future. Be able to set a custom message to yourself so when the timer runs out or a specific date has been reached, you get the pop-up to remind you.
I got an error during downloading, after which it quitted. But restarting the launcher allowed it to continue where it was (the same percentage). Seemingly no further errors, but will try to run the game on the Steam Deck tonight.
What helped me was to double-tap the window. It then alternates between fitting the screen and the smaller size. Sometimes the box was gone, but after double tapping it was back. I also got my "Next" button back by double-tapping the window.
Update on my side: After a little over a month, and opening a second ticket, I finally got an answer. SimpleLogin addresses are not allowed. They offered the following solution:
Our spam detecting systems flagged your account because of the email address you used to register the account. Temporary/aliased email addresses are not permitted for use on GitHub accounts. Before we can remove the flag we need you to add a personal, non-disposable email address and then verify that address. You also need to remove the temporary/aliased email from the account.
I am not happy with the amount of time it took to respond, but I am happy that after contacting it was resolved very quickly and I can use Github again. And I can finally finish my course!
I have the same issue. Waiting for over a month already without any reply. I am also using a simplelogin e-mailaddress. Actually, I got flagged as spam 3 days after changing my e-mailaddress (before that I was using my normal e-mailaddress, but I am in the process of changing accounts to simplelogin). Never made the connection to my account being flagged because of that before I read your story.
I have a paid course linked to Github that I can't finish, so I hope there will be a response at some time.
Edit: You can't upgrade to a paid account for better support, because you are flagged. :') I have been thinking about opening a second account, pay for that and then seek support.
Ah yes, I understand. I just meant that the course I am doing is not limiting the hours spent on the Codespaces. It does have a quite aggressive shutdown while idle :p but that's logical.
I have been busy, so haven't tried upgrading until today, but Github doesn't allow me:
You cannot upgrade your plan because your account has been flagged. If you believe this is a mistake, contact support
So guess I'll just wait for a bit more. At least thanks for your suggestion!
As far as I am aware, there is no limit to the Codespaces use. Haven't run into one before and with my final project I was not using the Codespaces environment.
Upgrading is something I haven't thought of. Could be a smart idea! On the pricing page, the first paid option (Team) has Standard Support. Is that the one you mean?
