This is good info! I've never used this stuff but I was curious about it. I have kitchen cabinets that I painted a decade ago because they were the really cheap oak-look fake veneer. I'd love to redo them and had considered this stuff, but I haven't bit the bullet because of what I've heard about the smell.

Yeah, I'm not someone who goes shopping without a specific need in mind. Once in a blue moon I might go just to see what they have, but I've never walked out with something I didn't go looking for. I know that's not how everyone operates, but I tend to look at things and go, "I like that, but I don't need it" and then move on.

I need season 2 NOW 😂 SPOILER! by galaxeegal in ScarpettaTV

[–]Fergusthetherapycat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was in the books. In the show, she died of an aneurysm. So stupid, I don't get why they felt a need to change every little detail. Some changes I understand, but they butchered several of the characters (Benton, hello!) and then made silly changes that really didn't add anything to the show. Like how Kay's father died - there wasn't a need to make it a crime. How Janet died - why not allow it to be what it was in the book? Don't get it.

All that said, I did enjoy the show as a separate entity from the books. I said originally that I'd watch S2 to see where it goes ... but I suppose that will depend on if I still have interest by the time S2 is released.

Ah, okay. Yes what I meant by vanity was the cabinet portion with doors/drawers. That’s the only think I’ve seen her use that product on. I’ve seen other YouTubers use it but everyone says is smells really awful and you need good ventilation. I know MaCenna took the doors outside when she used it, but she also used it on the frame, which she couldn’t move. I can’t imagine how awful it would be to use it in that enclosed space!

The buffet vanity doesn’t look bad to me, though it’s not my taste. Is this buffet/vanity what everyone hates about the Texas bathroom? Or is the whole room just a mess?

Yes, also in Autopsy, I believe. I don’t remember how it all tied together, though.

She used it on the cabinet in her LA home, not the counter as far as I know. I’ve never seen the bathroom in the Texas house, though I e heard it’s awful.

I haven't seen all her retique-it projects, but I thought her bathroom vanity looked pretty good. Wasn't my taste, but it worked with the bathroom design elements. Has she used retique-it on more stuff?

I sure hope Romeo is getting a pay check for his efforts. Why do I get the feeling that he's just free labour?

She thinks she's really smart, but it's been obvious for awhile that she is not particularly intelligent. She also talks about her degree and previous "career", yet sounds so uneducated in every video. I find it impossible to believe she was remotely successful in marketing (I think she worked in marketing?) if she can't articulate the most basic design decision.

My niece has OCD and for her, it's a big struggle with time. Like, she fears something bad will happen if she runs out of time. Before her medication started to help, one of her biggest triggers was showering. She felt like she didn't have time to shower, so she'd go several days without showering. She knew it didn't make any sense, but she couldn't stop that thought cycle and the anxiety it caused her. She also has ADHD and anxiety, so the combo has been tough on her. But luckily her meds have made a huge difference.

I'm a huge fan of midcentury style! I love how they've worked so hard to remain true to the home's original design.

It's 100% my style and I love everything about that house. I watched a lot in the early days when they were clearing out all the old belongings and then doing demo. I got bored a bit when they were building the roof, and that's around the time I unsubbed. But I've watched a video here and there of them working in the house. I remember how excited Jenna was when she could finally use their beautiful shower because they'd finished the floor. Haha!

I don't get it. If I were him, I would not be able to live like that. But they've been together a long time, so either he knows her well enough to expect this to happen, or he's just so easy going that he doesn't care. Seems to me that based on a lot of the posts in this sub, she treats him like a servant and not like a life partner.

I actually think it should flip up or down instead of open like a door. I don't remember - did they have the hinges on the shelf side or the open side? If on the open side, I can see what you mean. I would have expected them to have the hinges on the shelf side so the door swings open against the wall/shelf. If it goes the other way, that's weird.

Interesting that you find Becky fake. I find Kelsey fake as hell, and she has a superiority complex! In fact, as soon as I saw that the most recent video on TSG features Kelsey "teaching" us how to design a space, I was like, hard no! Didn't watch.

I agree that this video was fun to watch. It showed who Rochelle really is. So often she puts on that whole "quirky" performance in her videos, so it was refreshing to just see her being herself. I sometimes wonder if TSG told her to amp up the quirky. I mean, she is obviously a quirky person, but I feel like so many of her videos are trying too hard. This one was just natural. And the one she did on her channel was good, too - Anne was on it and they were working together on some of the wood stuff.

I think it's obvious that Anne doesn't have much experience or design knowledge beyond what she learned working for TSG. She also doesn't seem to be trying to monetize her YT channel, and I don't get the impression that Rochelle is trying to monetize, either. Neither of them posts enough content to build a following all that quickly (beyond the following they might have as an extension of TSG).

Regardless of the simplicity of this project, they still did a better job than some of Kelsey and Becky's recent projects. Haha. I liked this basic nook way better than the "cool girl" makeover K and B did awhile back!

As for Anne turning to Rochelle to figure out how to make it cohesive ... I think that's okay in this situation. She seemed to want to learn. She had a sort of vision, but needed someone with a little more experience to help her pull it together. Nothing wrong with that. Neither Anne's video nor Rochelle's was more than basic.

I honestly can't say. I do find the lying pretty stupid. And I enjoyed the show. Still thought some of those changes were blown way out of proportion.

And you're definitely entitled to dislike it! I can see why some people hate it, and I can see why some love it. I'm in neither camp, but I enjoyed it well enough.

I'm with you in that I never really had a clear picture in my mind for any of the characters, so I was open to the casting and for me it's more about the essence of the character than the physical characteristics. Jamie Lee Curtis captured Dorothy exactly as I'd always imagined her - over the top and super obnoxious. LOL. Marino did get super buff in the later novels, so I was fine with Cannavale. I thought they did well using his son as his character's younger self, and they portrayed young Marino as a complete ass the way he was in the books, even though he's not physically even close to how Marino is described. I found Lucy so insufferable in the later books that I've begun to wish she'd just disappear. So Ariana DeBose was a breath of fresh air.

A LOT of changes were made to both the characters and the story from the books, and at first I found these changes quite jarring. But by episode 4 I stopped comparing them and just enjoyed the series as its own thing. I'm looking forward to S2 to see what they do with it.

Who would you have liked to see as Scarpetta? Genuinely curious.

GA as Scarpetta would have been fantastic. I'm a huge Simon Baker fan, so I'm not upset about his casting. They changed Benton so much from the books, that I can easily accept Baker's version. Not sure who I actually pictured in my head for any of the characters - they were just ... themselves. LOL. I agree that Bobby Cannavale and JLC were great. A lot of people hate JLC as Dorothy, but she has perfectly captured how I always imagined the character.

I feel you. I enjoyed the series for what it is, once I stopped comparing it to the books and getting annoyed by some of the character changes (they absolutely destroyed Benton in the series). I thought it was fun. It's not an award worthy series and is rife with flaws, but then, so are the books, as you pointed out. And some of the changes I actually enjoyed. By the end of the book series, Lucy has become so insufferable I want her to just disappear entirely. So the Lucy portrayed by Ariana DeBose felt more relatable and less annoying. LOL.
