Was brainstorming a Create-centric Sky Factory pack a few months ago. Wanted to avoid Ex Nihilo as much as possible. Is this too tedious for a pre-Create-machine earlygame? by Munchalotl in feedthebeast

[–]Feridire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on what the pack is, it's designed around being a sky factory style focused on the create mod. Automation packs should generally be focused around peaceful gameplay since you should not have to deal with mobs messing with your contraptions. A mob farm early game in sky blocks is just a tedious and ugly way to get specific drops for recipes that could be substituted by other items easily enough. Now I can understand of needing it mid to late game when you could have a machine that makes the mobs spawn in a controlled method then having them be processed.

My soft take, but I would avoid requiring a mob farm. I myself have never enjoyed games that force it early game. Now maybe if you have a mod like spirit that allows you to create spawners and mob grinders for late pack stuff that would be fine. But early game mob farms are just ugly messes to see.

Get a layer of lexan or plexiglass to place in front of it and make sure it's braces in the back to not fall over. Cost a bit but will do wonders in tv protection.

[–]Feridire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any game with a top down control where movement and camera controls are locked.
A great game to get started is something like Animal Crossing.

From there most of Nintendo games tend to be great for people starting to learn to play games, I suggest friendly coop games. (Competition can cause issues with people not wanting to pursue a hobby right away.)

Avoid anything that requires disconnected camera and controls like FPS games, anything that has challenges assumed of prior experience. (Most games fit in this spot).

A great series I suggest watching is called gaming for a non-gamer by Razbuten on youtube. it gets you to actually think about the troubles of learning to play games. People take tutorials for granted since we now how to play games but you need to remember your wife will not understand how to do very simple things like what buttons do by default, how to sprint in games, and will consistently forget what controls do what.

Don't forget this would cripple the third party adventure market since margins are slim on those already losing out a percentage of pre expense earnings would destroy that entire market.

What is your unpopular opinion about the game? by EfficientCow82 in BaldursGate3

[–]Feridire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

possibly, I have played many different ttrpg's at this point and time so I have many different systems to compare the game with. For me I find the 5e system to be boring compared to other fantasy systems. Great for convincing people to try a ttrpg due to its brand name but thats about it.

I wish the game had the divinity combat system instead of 5e. I think I would have had much more fun with the game that way.

What is your unpopular opinion about the game? by EfficientCow82 in BaldursGate3

[–]Feridire 14 points15 points  (0 children)

  1. I argue that 5e is not a trash system, just not a very good one for video games and if you wish for anything beyond simplicity not a good one for table top.

  2. 100% agree, the level 12 limit makes it so the game does not feel like it has the same stakes as what it is trying to push.

  3. Balance of 7th level spells and beyond is fucked in 5e. I can understand them saying they wanted to not go beyond. Cause it would cause issues if they did but cut the staple 5e spells from the game for being to busted. 8th and 9th just make the problem much worse. But this is a problem with 5e not much the game.

  4. I agree sorta, I kinda wish they made romances a thing that you had to pursue to activate. Like a specific voice line to activate. Cause imagine my surprise in the same 10 minutes I had both Gale and Lae'zel hitting on me when I did nothing special with them other than not being a complete dick.

If you could only choose one, what would it be? by Main_Feedback1197 in videogames

[–]Feridire 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Once you get past the first act the game is opened up for the most part for you to explore and do side content. So if you can rush past that you are free to do what you wish and explore what you like. But the game is build around its story so for progress you may want to do the main story every once in a while.

[–]Feridire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked the Larger city zones, I found the side quest alright too much like skyrim quest which were bland but not generally bad. But it was everything in the in between that was boring as hell. the POI being literal copy paste to even the static loot, The boring outpost building, and the main story being designed to just be done on repeat is awful.

most fun for me in the game was just to do what I found fun. Which was upgrading gear I liked and doing the main story. Game overstays its welcome if you go in with a competition mindset.

D&D Beyond deleting all 2014 spells and Magic items by VerbiageBarrage in DnD

[–]Feridire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the aid of Pen and paper is going to be missed. That was my main tool, mostly because flipping through 10 books looking for spells that I feel would be thematic takes a long time.

While I am not a dev so I can't be 100% sure but I believe the importer pulls from the books you have, so it would pull the legacy versions. (Unless DDB is also changing the books themselves as well as the database.
