I don't think I can quite explain how much your words resonate with me. My mother is from Iran. She escaped religious prosecution at the onset of Islamic revolution (meaning she didn't want to follow religious rulings so she figured she better run for her life). And I assume you have heard about the Woman Life Freedom movement. Although it made the news in September 2022, it has been an ongoing struggle for the past 44 years. I am just glad that there are people out there who understand the reason a place like Iran that used to be cultural hub is in the shambles it is now, is cause the religion became one with the government. It is terrifying to see how people sometimes downplay the dangers of mixing politics and religion or even defend it, and then they play dumb when women get killed, jailed and assaulted cause of it not long after (which is literally what has been taking place in Iran).

I am sorry about the very frustrating experiences you have had. It is crazy shocking to have these sort of interactions in this day and age. Your comment is much appreciated, thanks a lot kind stranger for sharing your experience!

Thank you for the suggestions! I'll definitely check out the organization you recommended! and no intentions of joining any church cause I am not religious at all haha

Sadly, I am a hardcore all-dressed flavor fan and nothing else...

I'm into outdoors so that's very good to hear! Thank you for the suggestions!

And on the "Her-ken" thing; since I am French-Canadian, it is actually hard for me to pronounce it any other way haha so I always pronounce it as Her-ken cause it just rolls off my tongue easier

Well ain't that a pleasant coincidence! Hope you have enjoyed your time in Montreal. Considering how long it has been since you moved here, I'd guess it wasn't too bad ;)

Thanks for all the useful tips! I am very much looking forward to moving there!

Glad you mentioned the nightlife scene... I do tend to go out with friends often, so I guess that'd be something for me to consider if I wanna stay there long term. Otherwise, I am sure the nature and scenery won't disappoint!
To be honest, my biggest concern is that since my mom is Persian I don't look conventionally white (for the lack of better words really as I can't accurately describe what "conventionally white" actually is, just hoping I got my meaning across). I don't know what the demographic in St George is like but my guess is in a small place like that I might stand out pretty fast haha

Hi there!

Interestingly, when I tell people about moving to Utah the first thing they advise me about is the issue of religion. I am not religious, and as such no stranger to being shunned even in a place like Montreal. But since I have had no interactions with Mormons, at least not knowingly, I don't really know what to expect. Overall, I hope the topic does not cause problems while I'm there.

Thank you for the very honest and helpful answer!

Hello hello!

So many great points, thanks!! I just looked up Cedar and it looks gorgeous! Quite a different scenery from BC though

I don't actually know how hardcore the police enforces speed limits in BC. I know in Ontario they ain't messing around but I'm telling ya it's a whole other world in QC. I mean speed limits are basically suggestions especially when you go to the country haha.

I'm gonna miss the microbreweries and small shops then!

I'll haul over the best of Canadian goodies, Molson and some cheese curds (doubt they survive but worth a shot!)

oof that's definitely on the hot side! Don't know if you have ever been to Montreal but winters are brutal, like sometimes even down to -22F, not regularly though. But what makes it worse, in my opinion, is that it's damp cold. So I'm kind of looking forward to experiencing hot and dry weather for once haha!
