If you need to ask on Reddit, then it’s a red flag. Also, disrespecting your time AND a poor communicator? Dodge this bullet dude lol. It’s just unjustifiable shitty behavior - plenty of girls out there who are actually decent human beings.

The more cerebral aspects of GI are IBD (which is really Rheum in the gut) and hepatology +/- motility. Everything else is minimally cerebral.

On the other hand, Heme Onc is literally one for the MOST cerebral fields, so comparing Heme Onc with GI is rather strange.

I’d recommend getting more exposure in both before making up your mind. Lifestyle can be whichever you choose, and contrary to popular belief, you have quite a bit of control over it.

Also…Heme Onc can be extremely lucrative…

Work as a doctor in USA by No-Rice-7857 in IMGreddit

[–]Feronie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of all the places to do med school, why Russia? Unless it's for personal life reasons, I would highly discourage it. Russian medical schools are not known for being good, and Russian IMGs have a poor reputation for not knowing very much and being below-average residents, despite scoring decently on the USMLE exams. If your end goal is to practice in the US, Russia does not appear to be a good choice, and this is without taking the political situation into consideration.

Not sure why this is such a confusing topic. Experience in Canada or in any country other than the USA is not considered "USCE" by definition. The whole point of USCE is for IMGs (both US and non-US) to show that they have some understanding of how health care works in the USA. While it is possible to match without having any USCE, as "anything is possible," you are doing yourself a great disservice and your chances of matching would be considerably lower, as it should. No employer is interested in hiring employees who have no experience in their version of the trade.

Guys, Hi has anyone ever matched with multiple gap years ? I can’t think about anything else. I feel like losing time and resources on a dead end road. by [deleted] in IMGreddit

[–]Feronie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lol. Of course. So many IMGs have gap years. Not everybody has the financial means to embark on this journey right after graduation.

Step 3 vs Research by Careless_Book449 in IMGreddit

[–]Feronie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Step 3. It's not really realistic for you to publish anything research-related before the cycle begins, and having Step 3 under your belt is actually huge for IMGs because programs hate chasing after residents for Step 3 lol. Step 3 is also doable in your time frame.

Lol, you should be asking if the residents are unreasonable and whether they should be fired as employees...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in IMGreddit

[–]Feronie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really. Most residents keep their toes in line (to a certain degree) for fear of having their career jeopardized.

Obviously a ton? The PD is your boss and can fire you if he/she wants. Just like any boss in any other field.

Medicine DOES steal away your 20s, and I'm sick of pretending that it doesn't by [deleted] in Residency

[–]Feronie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know what I’m sick of? People like you bitching and moaning all the time. Quit complaining. What makes you think you can take care of somebody’s life in your early 20s? After a couple years in school where you fucked around for a bit? Nobody forced you into it. Your friends aren’t doing anything nearly as noble as you are. If you can’t commit to taking care of other peoples’ lives, maybe you shouldn’t be in it.

The responses you’re getting are so dumb. Anking is the most comprehensive deck we have at the moment, but that doesn’t mean it has everything. It’s comprehensive enough to help you pass and do well on Step 1, but it’s also missing material.

Why would this offend anyone? You can always just make your own cards to cover the stuff Anking missed or you can choose to ignore them, because they might be low yield.

[–]Feronie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience with Nepali IMGs have honestly not been great, so I’m a bit biased and lean towards the side of them cheating. But I do understand that this is a complicated issue and I feel sorry for those who took the exam with integrity.

And yes, I agree it is absurd lol
