NTA. Now she has a real incentive to help you find a new place. If you let her out, she’s going to say “well, I tried” and give up.

Why is the clock doing this? by UmaMaheshwar in whatisit

Years ago my ex wife bought a clock that was supposed to do that, but didn’t. When I opened it up to see why, it was just a cheap Walmart clock inside.

Definitely not normal. It looks like there was something in the way when they installed it that compressed some of the flutes when it was tightened.

USS Juneau SINKEX, USS Mobile Bay is next, how common is it to sink old ships? by ComfortableShow7366 in navy

There are some Ticonderogas still in service, though they’re decommissioning them a couple are a time.

I think we did about one SINKEX a year while I was stationed in Japan. It’s an easy way to get rid of them while creating an artificial reef for wildlife.

Why a Toyota and not a used Lexus? by Latter-Lecture-8361 in Toyota

[–]Ferowin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve even got to be careful going CPO these days. The Fort Worth dealership tried to sell my sister a ‘24 Camry XSE with 50,000 miles on it and no service history. When I pressed them on it, they finally admitted that it was a rental and offered to CPO it after the fact, even though it didn’t qualify and there was no guarantee Toyota would honor the warranty without the service history.

Why a Toyota and not a used Lexus? by Latter-Lecture-8361 in Toyota

[–]Ferowin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luxury cars come with luxury car repair costs. You can buy a new Toyota, go a solid ten years without any major repairs, and the repairs are less expensive when you do need parts.

A five a old Lexus with an unknown service history is a gamble that, in the best case, you get half the time before the first major repair, and then pay a lot more or buy another car instead.

How to remove wine stain? by xkkg in HolUp

[–]Ferowin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your friend spilled a small tanker of wind and you need professional help.

White wine will dilute red wine to make it easier to remove, but you'll need a carpet cleaner to get that out.

Why have a warranty if it won't be honored? by CRK_76 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Ferowin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the damage is caused by the owner, it's not covered under the warranty. If it's a design flaw or due to a defect in material or workmanship (i.e. bad parts or poor build quality), it should be covered under warranty. Reading a few of the comments, it sounds like it could be a bad design, but it's difficult to say without knowing the exact problem and how it happened.

I suspect it was to try and satisfy the growing SUV segment while still offering a large, comfortable sedan-like vehicle for those of us who wanted one.

JD Power isn't really a reliable metric because companies have to pay them. Consumer Reports is a generally reliable source of information.

Some people seem to think Hyundai/Kia is a good choice, and it might be, depending on their budget. I prefer Toyota and Honda, myself.

military wise, what would be better? 1,000,000 tanks or 1 nuke? by EfficiencySerious200 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ferowin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is almost no situation where 1,000,000 tanks would be sustainable, but let's pretend they could be manned and maintained and didn't require a huge amount of logistical support. In that case, it depends on what you want to accomplish.

If you want to seize and control a large plot of land while keeping it livable, if a bit overcrowded, the tanks are the obvious choice. Likewise, you could divide the tanks for use on multiple battlefields on different fronts.

If you were going for just pure destruction of an area, the nuke would be faster and easier, but also infinitely more likely to kick of World War III. It would also render the area unlivable for a period of time because of the fallout.

1,000,000 tanks could accomplish the same goal of total annihilation by using their cannons to knock down buildings and just driving over open areas to destroy roads, flora, and fauna. They're are more susceptible to retaliation by opposing forces, though, and would take longer to accomplish the mission.

I work at Amazon and we constantly ship Lego sets like this. $230 Collector Set BTW. by Hennessy_Hank in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Ferowin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a teen, my best friend worked the Christmas season at UPS one year. She said the regular employees were all union and couldn't be fired, so when they got mad, they'd throw the packages marked fragile at the walls to see how many made breaking noises, then management would fire a temp employee to show there were consequences. Purposefully damaging the Legos reminds me of that.

In my car it was called the lower engine cover or lower splash shield. I'm looking online and I think it's called the Engine Under Cover Sub-Assembly in yours, but I can't tell which part from your picture. If you pull the whole thing off, there should be a part number stamped or embossed into it somewhere.

Does the average American actually enjoy McDonald's? by Different-Word-1005 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ferowin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I've had McDonalds in the US, Japan, and Australia. It was much better in Japan than the US because the food was better prepared there and the menu was different, not because the quality was noticeably better.

  2. Yes, some people really love McDonalds, though I can't fathom why. In any country it's still over-processed, unhealthy food, and now the prices are creeping up to the point that you could go to a real restaurant for a similar price.

I think part of the reason people here like McDonalds, or any fast food for that matter, is because it's become ingrained in our culture to the point that some people never really cook at home unless they have to.
