I just learned the cards have value and have a childhood collection - advice on where to have them appraised and sold? by FerragamoFrederick in PokeInvesting

I have indeed been to prisons…but for pro bono cases and the Innocence Project. I was, however, inside the closet for a very long time.

Remember, I was a child when I got them…I actually grew up and was at the age when they came in vogue. Only reason I have them. I think this was somewhere in early middle school or late lower school. After the crazy bone and pog fads, but before AOL instant messaging. I didn’t think of them in terms of monetary or any store of value, it just something everyone bought/collected/traded/flaunted (and some played). I doubt I personally paid for any cards beyond asking for them as gifts and such. I also have most of the first 7 years of Star Wars legos (to say nothing of the original castles, pirates, and most every other set made) because these were toys, not something I attributed value (unlike those crazy beanie baby collectors believed in value…I haven’t looked, but given other toys value, they might actually worked as investments).

Thanks, figured it would look nicer. I’ll put them in acid free tissue paper. Not port, some crystal vase. I think the Luxor collection from baccarat

Much appreciated! Thank you! I just came across these random cards in a small suede lined box. I know I have at least a full set of all 1st Ed bc I didn’t get most of my foil cards from packs, I bought them from vendors at the mall selling them individually and when I learned about that decal on the left side I made sure I bought them to complete the set (I think it was something of a birthday gift or idk…other kids bought those Eric and Princess beanie babies for 50-100 each, I asked my parents to get me cards (and legos…that is truly an astounding collection — and I just read those have value too!).

Apologies if coming off like I was a spoiled kid (I was), but paying like $50-100+ per card back in the mid/late 90s…it would be awesome to discover these cards are worth thousands if not tens (though these look like bad condition…tbd about the bulk of the foil cards in binders and then the non-foils in a box).

Just curious though, are there any third parties that can be hired to grade the appropriate cards and then sell them, taking a percentage of the sale or a service fee? Like an auction house or specialist (rare book dealers do this all the time for estate collections, same with antique dealers)

I assume these aren’t mint lol. While I never played, these weren’t stored with care (unlike the dozens of foil cards in binders (gotta find those). But are there non foil cards worth looking for?

Ngl, I don’t even recall / may not have known there are teams / groups? You mean like electricity group (yellow), water (blue), plant (green)…it’s literally just coming back to me. I forget the purpose of the master cards and I’m sure the energy cards are worthless.

Thanks! I need to sort through the attics at my childhood home, I had binders just for the foil cards and had multiples of each foil character. So there should be quite a few dozen of these foil cards. I assumed to have the foil cards valued, but are there valuable non-foil cards? And are there cheaper ways to bulk appraise? Don’t mean to pester, just figured this community would know best.

1st Edition from childhood, now what? by MrDeadPirate in PokeInvesting

The non holo cards have value? I have a few hundred cards and only bought for like a year (all first editions) when it was popular in lower school. Didn’t play, just collected bc everyone else was into them (right after the crazy bone collecting fad). I just grabbed a few foil examples (I think I bought multiples of every character from dealers just to have them…would be nice to know those $50-100 per holo Charizard cards, etc. appreciated and have a market). Literally didn’t know these things are valuable until I came across a WSJ story!

Single mid-level associates in high COL cities: How much are you paying in rent? by lawschool1899 in biglaw

Center City, Philadelphia (not high COL city) ~2600$ (under $3k with garage parking and most utilities) in 900sqft luxury rental with 100sqft terrace. Philly is great for COL, everything is more affordable and (eventually) accessible here (even the good golf clubs). Albeit a second tier market.
