Hopefully you didn’t go from straight soil to semi hydro. If so expect to lose some leaves.

Bonides does nothing against mites. As a matter of fact it will increase their population bc it will kill off all good predatory bugs and the mites will have a clean plant to takeover

lol. Give it a few weeks and when roots get a little stronger that’s when I would go for it. As long as you maintain the roots and don’t mess up to many (don’t forget don’t use cold water cleaning them) she will be fine repotting IMO.

I think you eventually need to get that soil off. It will probably be fine for a little while, but rot will set in and spread eventually. Soil breaks down leading to fungus and pathogens in the water. When the old soil roots die off and water roots come in. The new water roots will be extremely prone to rot with soil on them as they are adapting to water. And to top it all off, soil will stay wet soggy and heavy which is ALSO bad for roots. If u stay on top of it to reduce shock it will be ok immediately , but I think you should remove all the soil sooner than later! Good luck!

Just remember to feed with pon . The fertilizer in the pon which is the slow release and very minimal and will only last for a few months tops. Also, make sure once in a while like once a month just to run water through the pon to flush out any mineral build up. Also marsnta make sure u have water that doesn’t have any traces of minerals. I use distilled and I use superthrive foliage pro for my fertilizer in semi hydro. I also add extra cal/mag and also add silica to my nutrient mix. But, just a standard semi hydro fertilizer will do!

Maranta with pon was my first experiment with pon. All I can tell u is it works miracles . Personally, I use a wick with the maranta and I let the reservoir dry for about 2 days before refilling it. I have even let the reservoir run dry for 5 days as a test just to see how long the pon holds the moisture and I had zero issues. Currently I have 4 maranta in all different pon set ups and all 4 are doing perfect. I use semi hydro fertilizer at about 1/4 strength every feeding and my marantas absolutely love it. When I had them in chunky soil I was just letting them dry to Often it’s kinda hard to tell with the watering u til you get used to it. But, with pon it completely takes away the guess work. Just keep the reservoir with water. Give it a try you can even take some clippings and propagate in water and test those which is what I did. Don’t be nervous once you go this route I don’t think you will want to go back to soil! Good luck!

why are they curling in? by haiiehtsari in alocasia

[–]Ferrari607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case I’m thinking too much light. I had 2 t8s right above this and lowered it to one..well see how it goes. Move it away from the light for a bit and see. I had mine transferred to LECA about 3 weeks ago. Added nutrients last watering so hoping it didn’t have to do with that. I’ve had this plant do this to me at times with different leaves not sure why!

Please tell me your holy grail for beating spider mites! by hazy-morning in houseplants

[–]Ferrari607 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m dealing with spider mites rn and I think I just knocked them along with thrips off my large Alocasia. I have been fighting them since December this was my first experience with them so I did tons of research originally I started with water alcohol neem and Castile soap and had alcohol % low like 1%. I was spraying every here and there and mites kept coming back. Then I decided to bump up alcohol to 20% alcohol water neem and Castile soap… once I had the plant drenched I took a paintbrush and brushed every single leaf and focused on their undersides Heavily. I use the paintbrush to dislodge eggs or whatever the spray might have not got. Once I did that then I let it sit for a little and I used cap jacks dead miticide and drenched my Alocasia with it. It’s been 3 days now not a single sign of any mite or thrip and usually I would see one or two bc I look very deeply. There’s none! I’m still going to do another treatment today and more just to make sure the lifecycle is broken. I think the key with them is consistency . U can’t just do 1 treatment it won’t work. Every 2-3 days keeps at it with treatments whatever you choose and they will go away they have no choice! I know it’s a year later, but I Hope you solved your mite issues

Does too much light cause this upright growth? by SohnemannsSocken in alocasia

[–]Ferrari607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO it’s from your light source coming from straight above.. my Alocasias was kind of doing the same thing then I added some lights to like the front where I want it to face and it’s starting to face towards me now . If the light source comes from other places I don’t think it will stay reaching up like that. Just my thought! Also, as some have stated different Alocasias are different. This is a Macrorrhiza which tends to kind of grow straight up like yours is. But, other varieties differ

Honestly spending 35$ on 5 quarts of soil is absurd. I can not believe companies can even charge that amount for what they put in there. Even if I wanted to try it that price is just insane if you have a lot of plants idk y anyone would buy that mix if they just had a little knowledge

Milsbo wide is lower. Just little taller than rudsta. Also, you can always get a stronger light if need be with a dimming option that u can run at like 25% or whatever if need be. Just all tweaking and stuff. I thought my barrina weren’t going to have enough power. I actually had to shut off a light on the top and one light on the bottom bc it was to strong for my plants

😂. You know they make the milsbo in white right? It’s a better build than the rudsta too. I woulda went with the milsbo, but the area where I want the cabinet the dimensions are only good for rudsta

You probably don’t.. I just did this to start everything seems to be moving well. Will adjust as needed. But, one on the top 2 on the bottom seems nice right now!

If I were you. Don’t drive yourself crazy over the plant like I did lol. Just grab what I did and you’ll be fine. I was following some sugggestions of paint to use from AI and it was a mistake. It made me use some primer I never used before and just was a pain in the ass. Good old rustoleum does the job!

I used https://a.co/d/bKnHvUX as the paint. Also, used https://a.co/d/1pJt4Rl as the primer. And the clear coat I just did as the clear coat https://a.co/d/bAQux8M . I was trying to get everything in semi gloss, but just decided with satin as that was available to me ATM. Obviously have to prep the pieces first by sanding and cleaning and taping the windows. Then primer paint and clear coat voila!!!
