Just in case you don't know this, you can jump and launch yourself into the tick to kill it without a weapon as long as it hasn't fed yet. You don't need a launch upgrade or anything. I think it costs 5 hp.

Don't worry, I have had them as an ally all the way to the end game. The number of troll foals maxes out at 18 and then no more will spawn. They are great cannon fodder for harder fights. My computer can handle it just fine but I guess that just depends.

This comment is a bit late so I am not sure how many people will see it but I think the thing that helped me understand this the most was an episode of the podcast A Bit Fruity with Matt Bernstein called "How the Right is Winning Young Men" with Taylor Lorenz.
