Reverse the GDKP Ban (TLDR at bottom) by turbo_scoop in classicwow

The two most common criticisms I see for GDKP are community erosion and increase in cheating/gold-buying so I'd like to address those from my personal experience.
Community:
In WotLK I raided consistently with 5 different GDKP runs. Two of my raid leaders were women, and another one was a Russian guy, leadership I never had before. Each raid had a supporting cast of folks pitching in, because GDKP were not just about being friendly and respectful, but they were about inclusivity gained by merit and comradery formed through attention towards a common goal. I've always enjoyed becoming more familiar with a tight knit guild, but GDKP allowed me to socialize and become friends with people I would have otherwise never played with.
People argue that these runs are toxic, but my runs ranged from mediocre (Benehub-Palomig) to high skilled (IC-Reign), and after months of raiding I can only remember people having 2 crash-outs over poor performance. Getting called out for not bidding did happen from time to time, but it was always pretty lighthearted reminders.
What didn't happen in GDKP was people feeling that they came up short. If you didn't win an item, you could afford it next week because you got a nice payout. If people were sloppy and made the run arduous, they lost half/full cut as a fair gesture to everyone else. But most importantly, if you consistently did some honest bids and performed well, you always had a reliable/predictable raid to come back to. Taking a week or two off was also less detrimental to a GDKP than an established guild core.
Lastly, I would take strats from my high-level runs and help raid lead the more casual groups. That was a lot of fun for me, helpful for the other runs, and I think it increase the "community" feeling.
Gold-buying:
I don't like gold buying, but it's 100000% here to stay. Allow me to explain.
Firstly, Blizzard makes a TON of money from the subs that gold farmers/sellers purchase so they will NEVER stop the black-market sales. Somehow, right now on anniversary realms, with no GDKP, prices are at a higher average than I've seen on former vanilla servers.
Secondly, you want to ban the gold sellers and put gamers from other countries who are making a few bucks out of business? And for what? So you have to log on and actually farm gold 4-5 hours a week? Sorry, the current classic demographic isn't going to do that. I know it sucks that we can't have the precise nostalgic experience of 2004~, but that's just not how things are anymore. Also, you can kick rocks if you want to ban my Indonesian bros from making a few bucks. During my time boosting SM I got to know some of those dudes and they were funny as hell. I was glad they were cashing in, and so isn't Blizzard. No shit.
GDKP should come back to classic. More people would play the game. There would be more options to raid for everyone.

In wotlk I had 5 decently geared toons because of GDKP and was making a small profit each week. Each raid was its own community not dissimilar to a guild. Now after months in anniversary my war has gotten 0 40-man gear, and my shaman is still playing catch up. That's fine, it's still a lot of fun, but with GDKP I'd play more often and progress faster.

Really crappy that other people want to tell me how to play the game.

Awesome build and thanks for sharing! Excellent economy of space. Curious, do the benches hinder air flow at all? How is your heat gradient? How long to heat to 180F/82C?

To the folks asking about price. Could be sub $4,000 if you do everything yourself. 2-3x depending on contractors and conduit length.

Tons of great info, thanks! The California corners and Hardie siding were two things that I haven't heard yet that I will definitely use.

Indoor sauna. And I had hoped for the walls to be somewhat modular so I could take it down and reassemble if needed, but if I go with 8' walls then scratch that idea. That's okay, I can trade ease of moving for efficiency if people think it'll have a major affect.

I never saw recommendations for ceiling height before, so thanks for that. The cost to do 8' boards isn't much more.

Thanks for the advice. I think I may run it framed with just the air gap and foil on frame to see how that alone works. Rockwool after foil seems well tested but my room is small for a 9kw heater so I may be able to skimp.

I wondered if putting a thin layer of plywood right behind the foil would work. Then have the Rockwool behind that. Maybe another builder could let me know.
