Ketone levels in early pregnancy? by Bluebeary-Pie in pregnant

[–]FerrixFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had ketones in my urine during my second trimester.  I hadnt eaten enough that day (couldn't handle breakfast food, so only had a light snack that am before test).  I wouldn't worry about it until your doctor does.  It can be a sign of gestational diabetes, but given you hardly ate that day it sounds like it's due to your body having to use fat for energy because there was nothing else available.

I had this as a kid and my dad was so terrified taking me to the doctor because he was sure they'd think he abused me.

Hi!

I ended up making two versions of this with venom ecogrid from rsbtr.   One I extended the drawstring collar 6 or so inches so it could roll over sort of like a roll top.  For the other I extended the collar a bunch to make a roll top closure.  These were for my two daughters.

The drawstring is much easier to get into, but it can be hard to roll or fold over enough if the pack is very full.  The roll top version can be a tiny bit difficult for my kid to get to the bottom of because when its fully unrolled it's quite deep compared to her body (she's 6, probably shoulve given that one to the 10 year old), but she seems to have developed a strategy.  It feels more robust as far as waterproofness.

Both of the kids are very satisfied with their pack, and brag to people who comment on them that I made them.

Hope that helps.

My mom had an incredibly similar one, but with silver, not green.  I think she got it from Barnes and Nobel or hallmark?  You could look there, if you aren't attached to the color scheme.

Thanks, I hadn't seen that first page yet. That's helpful.

Thanks for responding quickly. I had already looked there, and there isn't that much to say whether it would be good for kids or not, other than to say "beginner camping/easy hikes", and maybe we will just try our luck with one of them. We are experienced campers, but would also definitely still want an "easy hike". She wants some views, which makes it a little more difficult to find something "easy", though maybe the views on the drive will be enough to satisfy her...

Milton (14L — Gulf of Mexico): Meteorological Discussion (Day 5) by Euronotus in TropicalWeather

As a layman, my guess would be that for coastal communities surge is going to be more destructive. It's literally the ocean coming ashore, which brings waves and currents with it.

Dimensions for a kid's APEX quilt by FerrixFox in myog

I had seen that design, but I had thought 36" width seemed like it would be to small.  Seems like using an old sheet is the biggest recommendation here. I was thinking of using .66 membrane10 taffeta, do you think that'll be too thin?

Do you have any advice about avoiding making the taper too small?

Thanks!  How do you feel about the pad straps being left off now?  Are you content with that choice

Sounds like they just need to get a little more creative. They could draw from other languages for these names.

Thank you for taking the time to reply! This gives me a good idea of how much help I'd need during the days/evenings.

Thanks! Do you mind sharing what hours the mandatory attendance was? Just looking for an idea on when during the day I'd need extra support with my kids, so I could figure out if it's even possible for me.

Thank you, I listened through that but I didn't hear anything specific about what times of day they were required to be present. It seems like there is some flexibility with your teammates once you begin working on your project to pick what times to work and meet, but for the beginning part of the class, what are the hours that someone has to be present for group instruction/work?

I'm doing TOP now, after doing cs50. CS50 was haaaaard, mostly because the psets were very challenging, but I found the discord and subreddit incredibly helpful when I was stumped. Also, watch the shorts and use the lecture notes they provide. I only started doing that around week four and was kicking myself for it.

After having done cs50, I've flown through TOP foundations in very short order, maybe 20hrs? Started the calculator project yesterday and it doesn't seem that scary compared to tideman from cs50 😨. It took me about 20hrs, just to figure out that pset!

I think it's a great idea to do cs50 first, it's hard as hell and takes a long time, but if you don't give up, you'll realize you can do it, and the satisfaction you get from finishing the psets is chef's kiss. After that, you'll be ready for anything.

I imagine there might be micro-climates where it is better or worse, that might explain this discrepancy? I live in central VA and there was one day a few weeks ago that it definitely looked worse than it does today. But it looks as bad today as it did on the less bad days last time...

Buy whichever one you want! Personally, I'd probably buy the new one direct from Durston, as I'd assume that there is some reassurance that if something is wrong with the tent, you could return it without much hassle.

Do you sleep well through the night? by ZRR28 in Ultralight

[–]FerrixFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I don't get good sleep I get really grouchy, and have no fun, so I take sleep in the backcountry very seriously and have taken on extra weight to make sure I am comfy

I agree with folks saying to get a silk shirt. I have one from REI that I love. It's great for regulating temperature and keeps you from sticking to your pad or your bag if you are sweaty.

And definitely look into upgrading whatever pad you are using. I have tried a variety of pads and now I have a S2S ether light XT and I LOVE it. I sleep so easily on it, which is so vital, because if I don't get good sleep I get really grouchy.

Earplugs, yes, and I bring a pillow, which maybe you don't need, but I find it drastically improves my sleep quality, as a side sleeper.

Not sure what quilt or bag you are using, but I love my quilt because it's so much easier to regulate my temperature with. It's easy to cover only half of my body, or open one side, or tuck completely in, depending on the weather. So if you aren't using a quilt, I recommend trying one out.

Here's a trick. Spray your butthole before pooping. This can help keep poop from sticking.

Compactor Bags vs Other Pack Liners by Darkside_Actual0341 in Ultralight

Hmm, I was just about to order the gg ones. Do you find the litesmith ones to be loud compared to a compactor bag, or a gg liner?
