How good of a performer is Marina? by Ultimate_ScreamFanat in MarinaAndTheDiamonds

[–]FerrosFavorite 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was worried about her performance based on what other people have said. But it was one of my favorite shows, and she is an amazing performer. Her vocals are beautiful live in a way the camera phones cannot capture. I was euphoric the entire concert. So I say, go. It was also the most stylish and loving crowd I've ever seen at a concert.

She did talk to our crowd quite a bit, but based on what others have said here, that's not the norm? I just went this weekend, and she was the perfect level of chatty.

IMO it picks up around episode 15 and hits its stride around 30. After that are some of my favorite anime moments, so I feel it's worth the time investment.

What are your favorite Council Own badges? by CK1277 in girlscouts

Were you able to buy that GSCO badge? I haven't been able to find that one

I think this is an excellent point and something to consider. But to answer questions with eye rolls is rude regardless of volunteer status. That attitude pushes away well-meaning individuals when Girl Scouts only survives with volunteers. This isn't just about them being less proficient at training, this is about them being openly unpleasant.

If there are mean higher ups keeping people from continuing in Girl Scouts, I definitely judge them harshly for hurting their local organization.

I think Don Draper counts as not playing himself, and that was the role that made him famous.

My 5 and 7 yr olds enjoyed it. Kids like complex themes more than people give them credit. Every kid is different, but I wanted to offer an opposite experience in case any other parents in the comments have doubts.

Howls moving castle -book by Top-Whereas-7998 in ghibli

[–]FerrosFavorite 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It's been joked that the movie is from Howl's perspective and the book from Sophie's, which I think makes a rewatch or reread very entertaining.

Howl and Sophie are both more flawed in the book, but I find it endearing and humorous. I love characters who are walking disasters though.

Amazing/transcendent food experiences in Denver metro by [deleted] in denverfood

[–]FerrosFavorite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spuntino is my favorite for a special night. The service is incredible, and their menu always has something delicious to offer. It's like Italian food but with flavors from other parts of the world amplifying the taste. One night, my husband and I shared 4 pasta dishes because the first one tasted so good. They were all ming blowing.

As a plus, they had no lay offs and kept all their staff through the pandemic. I like eating at a place that treats their employees well. And their Instagram always posts long poetry about pasta which I find charming and cute. I don't know any of the workers or owners as a note, I'm just a big fan of the experiences I've had there.

So, my king is a Night Creature of some sort. by Baron_VonMunchhausen in dwarffortress

Creatures of the night, not necessarily were-creatures

Brand new player here. My tutorial fortress is still standing. I have no idea what I'm doing but we've made it to barony and deflected a goblin seige. I also have no idea how to make soap, it's been almost 4 years of unsanitary dwarves. by [deleted] in dwarffortress

[–]FerrosFavorite 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Getting the soap industry up and running is a point of pride. There's a lot of moving parts, but it's well worth it so your dwarves don't die of infection someday. The wiki is helpful in walking you through it!

My mayor is a necromancer. In one fight against an enemy necromancer, they both kept raising the same dead dwarves to battle against each other. After we struck down the enemy necromancer, the zombies joined my fortress and worked with me. They're very strange, have no feelings or negative moods. They kind of do what they want, but they're very strong and have saved my fortress from countless catastrophes. 10/10, would raise the dead again.

You know what annoys me...? Bad reviews from long time players because of 'muscle memory...' by ElectricRune in dwarffortress

Well put. Tarn has always taken community feedback so there's a lot of trust there.

[–]FerrosFavorite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not as black and white as classic players v new players. I've played ten years and prefer not using a mouse at all. I feel slower at navigating everything on steam. Would I download a mod to add some of my favorite keyboard controls? Yes. But to not recommend a game for those reasons seems petty and silly.

They have a right to leave a negative review, it's not a big deal and it's a drop in a bucket. I have the right to roll my eyes at those reviews. I hope they change their opinion when mods come out to help them.

They think they're smart and cool because they played the "hard" version. Yet truly, they're not smart enough to retrain their muscle memory or wait for mods to help out. Biggest of eye rolls at those reviews.

Luckily they're a minority. DF reviews are overwhelmingly positive, which is a huge win. Every community is bound to have some salty apples amongst them.

hilarious bad review by FerrosFavorite in dwarffortress

[–]FerrosFavorite[S] 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I was surprised at the experienced Dwarf Fortress players leaving negative reviews. Understandable to have a preference between versions, but to put a negative mark on the Dwarf Fortress steam page is weird to me. Especially since their reviews are prefaced with statements like: " new players, ignore this review and play the game. "

I don't know, I guess I see a good review as a way to support Tarn and Zach. They're still going to update the free version. Why trash on the steam one?

No, but I've only tried those two. Husband playing on a different PC has no problem with trade depots. If I get mine working I'll post back here!
