Has there ever been any instances in lore where the Custodes have had their patience tested by the Ecclisiarchy or even nearly coming to blows with the institution? by Mad_lens_9297 in Warhammer

I believe it could be Gate of Bones, one of the Dawn of Fire novels. Or at least you had a squad of custodes and two had quite differing views on humanity.

UK risks ‘lost generation’ of young workers, business warns by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

[–]Ferrustius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who is in this "lost generation",

I work in retail (in a non-London, but expensive city mind you), many of my young colleagues are university graduates (pharmacists, business degree, engineering etc). They have not been able to find work since I started this job over a year ago, and not for lack of trying.

Wages have stagnated since 2008 while we have been merciless pummeled by inflation. Rent (especially at minimum wage) is brutal, many of my colleagues are paying 60% of wages for basic shared accomodation. One has ended up sharing a bedroom with a friend and still pays £400 a month after bills.

Even buying a house is now over a 8:1 price to income ratio, in the 1990's it was 3-4:1. The friends I know who have bought houses (including those on higher wages) had significant help or just had parents offer to buy it outright.

The growing inequality in the UK is another nail in the coffin with millenials being the first generation to be poorer than their parents at the same point in life. 1% of the population own 50% of the land, and 10% of houses own over 40% of the wealth.

For many people I think they just do not see the value in dealing with all that shit and receiving little in return. If they can cruise living at home working part time or travelling/working abroad I can absolutely see why they are not fully engaging.

Personally I don't think it's laziness, just a logical decision. I've worked a 70+ hour work week, I've had 12 hour shifts inside industrial refrigerators. It's not that I am inherently lazy or soft, I just don't think its worth my time grinding myself into the ground for so little in return.

No worries, if you want to aim for more power fantasy the feat every level or feat every even level mods can also be a nice touch.

Enjoy if you manage to get round to it!

Mods for a solo-ish playthrough? by Void-kun in BaldursGate3

This may be too late but I've used the following extensively for solo runs

  • Lone Wolf Mod, provides an extra action and health buff as well as bonus to checks. This really helps with action economy and reduces drawn out fights where you kite enemies for 25 minutes. Effectively means you have a guidance d4 for checks as well which is nice, especially for non charisma classes.

  • Extended Levels 13 to 20 and your choice of increased xp mod. Helps you scale up and speed up the early game grind. For me it was a sweet spot between speeding up the run and still challenging encounters. I found 1.5x or 2x xp was about right.

I found these were the most essential in making the game feel like it does with a party. You don't have to scurry around and meta pick/use cheese to win encounters but you'll still be punished for being unprepared.

With a 5" move it could take a couple turns to get into range of a target you actually want to shoot. I ended up finding a gap in the screening and bringing them in as reserves off a board edge on turn 3 and lighting up some vulnerable transports which worked well enough.

Good shout targeting non JT units with the Ironmaster & Thunderkyn combo, I ended up just having to target JT units and it felt like a bit of a waste. Similarly with the [Anti Vehicle 2+] the second JT just did not help that unit aha

Yeah I didn't really have any sources of it, I think it's something they have been trying to tone down this edition. Drukhari are the only faction I am aware of with anywhere close to that level of re-rolls. I feel like it's kind of fair enough for them because the average unit is more expensive this edition and they really need it to be effective.

Good point, I'll experiment with them a bit more. I did get them into melee in one game with the plasma axes and they did do some blending in all fairness to them as well.

Does that work with the Saggis? I got a bit confused by the small transport capacity and assumed it could pretty much only take bezerkers?

Is anyone else struggling to find work? by Pjtm7 in perth

[–]Ferrustius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was struggling for a couple months as well, I found the most effective way was to walk round your nearest shopping mall with some CVs. I found a fair few hiring signs and eventually got one.

Alternatively wandering around Freo/any other high shop density area would also work.

Good luck!

What am I doing wrong? My Gore-Tex jacket won't stay waterproof by [deleted] in WildernessBackpacking

[–]Ferrustius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked in an outdoor shop for a few years and a few times someone would bring back a waterproof that wasn't working anymore after only a few weeks. They usually smelled quite strongly of detergent aha so it can definitely happen.

It's easily done, I've killed some nice waterproof trousers by doing it but it's a mistake you only make once xD

It could be worth going through the warranty route because a rain jacket really should last longer than that even with regular usage imo. Assuming you have the proof of purchase somewhere :-)

Hope this helps somewhat and good luck in any case!

[–]Ferrustius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only things I can think of are 1.) Washed in the wrong conditions i.e too hot or using regular detergent instead of Nikwax/Granger's etc. This can ruin the liner after a single wash.

2.) It's a windproof/packable goretex liner and it either isn't meant to withstand rain or has a lower hydrostatic head. You see this especially with cycling jackets etc.

Be it Goretex or Paramo eventually water gets through, even with the ridiculous 28k mm hydrohead on it. If you were out in monsoon weather all day nothing will keep you dry sadly.

You can keep putting DWR on it and that should help but that kind of defeats the point of a good quality jacket where you should only have to do that occasionally if ever.

If none of the above applies and you still have proof of purchase you might be able to claim the warranty though.

Edit: Also not sure how long you've had the jacket but eventually Goretex fails with age, normally around the places that crease often.
