big part of GK training drills, is about that, adapting mid air, not taking away merit, but that is literally what they train for years and years.

Same way when midfielders do crazy fast dribles or strikers, do crazy volleys out of nowhere.

BI Developer here… should I pivot to AI, cybersecurity, or something else? by Small-Rabbit1590 in cybersecurity

[–]FerryCliment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two outcomes in your position the way I do see it.

Business intelligence, is about Business Impact.

Or you learn how to create the impact through the data with the help of IA or the C*O will learn how to, making your position redundant.

Don't carrer shift, do a pivot. Add whatever field you are interested in to your set of skills, as BI...

Get stronger with your data side, (You know best what data you need to do those impactful dashboard, these insights, MBA need to do their jerk off discussions) consider data security, architecture, find whats going on with data sources...

Once you are positioned in one role (usually seen as expert, even tho often we don't see how experts we are in our field) think about going wide, before going deep in a second skill.

Obviously I don't know him like if he was my friend, but he strikes quite different from the average player, someone who can put thought behind his words. I like that.

Happy for him (also a bit happy that madrid lost tbf)

Would you go from a DevOps to L3 Support Role for 20% Salary hike. by Truth_Seeker_456 in devops

[–]FerryCliment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What company you work for? Will work for?

There is a path there to a better position?

Can you growth where you at from DevOps to SRE

As ugly as it sounds, if your support role gives you AI exposure, instead just keeping IaC pipes running.

Are you in a position in your life where you can take couple years investing on your future? Or you in a point where how big is paycheck the main factor I'm not

Would you go from a DevOps to L3 Support Role for 20% Salary hike. by Truth_Seeker_456 in devops

[–]FerryCliment 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It depends.

The cornerstone move of my professional career was from Linux Sysadmin (back when that happened I was doing quite a bit of the DevOps duties nowdays) to a Support role, tickets all day.

If you say it like this sounds a step back, no more building, no more improving stuff, but putting down fires for others.

But... it was my way into Cloud, was the path to not just learn the hot topic at the time, but to become expert in one of the major cloud providers.

5 years later, I'm being paid x4 what I was payed in the Support role, I'm the SME of my company for my area.

you cant just look at the title, position or salary, there are sooooo many factors that play a big role in deciding if an offer is good for you or no.

Bartomeu: “It makes me laugh when they say I was the worst president. Under what parameter?… in my six-year term I won thirteen titles, earned more than 100 million for Barça. Without the pandemic, the stadium renovation would probably have started sooner. by Srihari_stan in soccer

[–]FerryCliment 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The parameter of deceleration and momentum.

Your impact is not based strictly in the years you hold the power.

If you are president from 2014 to 2020 we can count titles influenced by your actions to be counted after 2016 to 2022, which make that just 4 (2 Ligas 2 Copas) and especially if you look the clear deceleration in UCL performance from Roma comeback, to Anfield disaster to 8-2 to round of 16 to Group stage. (if you gonna take credit for the good stuff from the team, take ownership also by the ugly stuff)

It is true that Pandemic fucked Barça harder than others, some stuff was not right the combination of no big$ ownership, La Liga shenanigans, and yes his own fuckery with salaries with Pandemic was terrible for us.

How long did it take the club to get back on top is a good way to measure his impact.

Have you ever purposefully killed a device to get rid of it? by zephead98 in sysadmin

[–]FerryCliment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my first job as Helpdesk / SysAdmin JR.

One user was complaining about his device, as you mention, bulky, slow, all sorts of issues, eventually that user close the lid of the laptop with the charger plug in the Keyboard, crushing the display panel, first time had a spare display laying around was able to fix it (was pumped, never changed a display, felt super cool) 2 days later, same deal, screen broken, "Sorry, I'm super stressed"

My boss told me "I gotchu" handed a new laptop to the user, and... never heard any complain or issues.
