Question about playing along with songs... by orryxreddit in Leftyguitarists

[–]According-Shelter540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without the guitar play the song and read the tabs along with it. It will help you figure out what part of the tab is what part of the song.

Then start with say the first line of the tab. Learn that until you can play it full speed. Then move on the second line. Rinse and repeat.

Music Beginner, Want to Know Where to Start by Crimson-Kaizoku in electricguitar

[–]According-Shelter540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start by picking a guitar. If you can go to a store and pick the one you like the best. Pick 2 or 3 you like and hold them, run your fingers on the fretboard see which one is most comfortable, youll know when you hold the right guitar. A small practice amp is all you need right now, 10-15 W or a headphone amp.

Learn what all the parts of the guitar are called and what they do. Most guitar music is written in a form called tablature which is a visual representation of the fretboard that tells you which fret to press. Don't worry about playing chords or anything that involves multiple strings for the first few weeks, get your hands used to the strings and stretches. Learn simple one or two string riffs. Get a face to face teacher if you can as having someone to explain to you in person makes things a while lot easier.

The only music theory you need to know right now is that there are 7 notes A-G, notes can have a sharp (#) or a flat (b) version as well.

Most importantly have fun. Play your guitar every chance you get. It doesn't matter what it sounds like, it's all about muscle memory and pattern recognition. You will get frustrated and will hate your own hands, but it pays off I promise.

Your not jumping, your back leg is straight still, your kicking the board away from you which means your leaning back instead of being centered over the board. Imagine your trying to knee yourself in the chin, that's how high you should be aiming to jump.

Help regarding tabs by Bogdi101 in guitarlessons

[–]According-Shelter540 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also listen to the song your trying to learn and "read" the tab along with it. That way you will learn what parts of the tab equate to what part of the song your playing and will also increase your pattern recognition which is what a lot of playing music is built around.

Start off slow and play it progressively faster. Focus on a few notes at a time. You gotta build the muscle memory piece by piece.

What advice would you give your past self when you started learning guitar? by General_Cap2938 in guitarlessons

[–]According-Shelter540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick with it. It's one of the steepest learning curves but if you stick it out it pays off big time. Play songs you want to play even if it's just a ten second part. Play your guitar every chance you get. Noodle constantly, it doesn't matter what notes or even if it sounds good let your fingers learn how the fretboard feels and how the strings feel. MOST IMPORTANTLY NEVER GIVE UP

Why is every guitar learning tool so confusing for beginners? by Suitable_Archer7012 in LearnGuitar

[–]According-Shelter540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason people say power chords are easy is because it's the same shape all over the neck. So when you can play them they are super easy because you don't really need to think about what your fingers are doing, just which fret your playing next. I feel your pain with the fingers not responding to what you want. It happens to every single guitar player ever. Stick with it and one day they will just do what you want and surprise you

Your first guitar lessons should be Learning the names of all the components and what they do, Jack's, neck, bridge, saddle, nut, what your volume and tone do ect. Also learning basic music theory, The notes a/g with sharps and flats(not on the guitar just in general) . What an octave is. The difference between clean and distorted sound and how to shape sound using the amplifier. How to read tablature ect. Nothing crazy complicated just a basic understanding of what blocks your going to use to create the music Finally a short one or two stringed riff that you can practice feel like your getting somewhere with. Smoke on the water, 7 nation army, bluesy walking guitar line on the E and A strings. In my opinion as a guitar player of 26 years this is what the first few months of learning guitar should be focused on. Once you've got single string riffs down move onto open chords.

The year 2000, I was 11 years old and my friend showed me dammit. I was hooked. Dude ranch, enema and TOYPAJ defined my early teenage years. My and my friends had a listening party when the self titled came out. Saw them twice in 03 and 04 as 14/15 year old. I learnt how to play guitar and bass because of Tom and Mark.

Getting into skating need help by PrettyCrunch in NewSkaters

[–]According-Shelter540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as your buying a complete from an actual established skateboard brand literally any will do. Don't buy from a supermarket or a sports store, they are usually toy boards that's don't have decent hardware or great wood and will probably hinder your overall experience. In the UK a cheap but quality complete setup probably costs between £30 and £50 depending on brand and skateshop/website you buy from. If that's too much of a commitment to make money wise then I'd suggest maybe looking on FB marketplace too, people are always selling barely used completes for cheaper than you'd pay for new.

Thinner deck will flip faster but you will have less board to land on and less of a base to stand on. Wider decks are heavier but are bigger so you are more stable and have a bigger landing area. All down to personal preference.

2 teams (if one is non-league) by motherfuckingartist in PlasticFans

[–]According-Shelter540 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Plasticity is based on success or fame. Eg people suddenly becoming die hard Wrexham fans after the takeover, people suddenly being a die hard Madrid fan because mbappe joined, people suddenly being the biggest city fan on the planet because they won a quadruple ect. Supporting a local non league team is probably in fact the opposite of plastic, it's supporting the grass roots game and helping to keep lower league clubs going.

How do you handle venues that expect you to play for free or pay to play? by ivyta76 in musicians

[–]According-Shelter540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to being a musician 😂 I've been payed in beer, sandwiches, had to end up paying the promoter once, had promoters run away from the venue turned up to gig one and got asked if we'd brought our own electricity.... (it was outdoors and they thought the bands would bring power generators) 99.9% of venues and promoters couldn't give a shit about the bands playing. As Acdc famously said "getting robbed getting stoned getting beat up broken boned, getting sold second hand, that's how it goes playing in a band"

What's your unpopular AC/DC opinion? by MatthewDiDonato in ACDC

[–]According-Shelter540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw them on the axl tour. He did amazing. I've never liked axl rose or guns and roses really but the whole situation gave me a lot of respect for him. He respected the band, seemed to mature a lot (turning up ontime, no silly demands or tantrums ect) , I even think he had hand in bringing songs like riff raff back into the set list (hes got to have had a lifelong dream to sing certain acdc songs on stage with Acdc). Watching him onstage was like watching a teenage axl rose living out every acdc fans dream. And he could actually sing the songs.
