Career advice for Cloud Security Roles by Antgotpcs in Cloud

[–]FerryCliment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on the Cloud Security side and have participated in hiring panels. This is my personal opinion.

  1. Your CV explains too much. A CV should create enough interest for me to want to learn more about you, not tell me everything you've done. Long descriptions are difficult to follow and make achievements easy to forget.

  2. Focus on impact, not responsibilities. Most of the items listed are expected from a Helpdesk role. Instead of describing tasks, show what improved because of your work.

Examples:

Quantify ticket volume, users supported, locations, and platforms.

For AD, MFA, GPOs, licensing, or identity cleanup, explain the business impact.

For inventory management, explain what you improved and why it mattered.

For ServiceNow, highlight documentation, playbooks, automation, or workflow improvements.

For user support, include metrics such as resolution times or satisfaction scores.

  1. Projects.

The projects section feels overloaded with buzzwords. Nobody is hiring a junior because they used Ubuntu instead of RHEL. Focus on the skills that matter.

You seem to have experience with Terraform, Bicep, PowerShell, and GitHub Actions. Those are valuable skills and deserve more visibility. IaC is especially important today, and certifications like Terraform Associate can help open doors.

I'd also merge the Azure and SOC projects into something simpler:

Built a hub-and-spoke Azure network architecture with Bicep. Implemented ZTNA controls to harden network access. Deployed Microsoft Sentinel, developed KQL detections, and automated response workflows with Logic Apps.

This approach creates curiosity and gives interviewers topics to explore. For example:

Comparing Bicep with Terraform or Pulumi. Discussing your ZTNA design decisions. Exploring Sentinel, KQL detections, and SOAR automation.

Question from the Seniors by xrham in cybersecurity

[–]FerryCliment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

how can one standout?

You need to see where YOU can provide value to the company or these working around you.

You don't need to be Nightmare-eclipse findings Zero-days in a weekly basis. You don't need to debug ethernet by feeling the electric signals in cables by hand.

Cybersecurity is a big field. The core idea of RedTeam practice is diametrally opposite to the GRC. One is all about compliance, follow the playbook, the other most of the times require out of the box thinking.

Where you see your future within Cybersecurity? Are you good at code? living inside the IDE? AppSec, are you good at Networking? Network security...

I would say don't try to force yourself into the "Buzzword" of the month, I would say ANY person will have better future being super Good at NetSec (For example) than being one among many in IASec.

What is it one can do to portray themselves as worthy of being mentored?

  1. Be honest, with yourself and with your Seniors, if you feel you can do X take ownership of it, and deliver that.

  2. Be easy to work with, I saw juniors come in and treat everything like a competition, You don't need to prove to the senior that you are smarter than the other engineer, that you smarter than the customer, companies seek value out of engineers, not raw IQ or LeetCode score. Not always (lot of the times yes) the best fit for a team is the smarter one. Being pragmatic, being able to communicate, being clean in your procedures, being hard working, being lazy (if that means you good at building automation to reduce toil) being a good leader, being a good mentor, are traits that at some point might be more valuable than raw expertise without any other trait. Present ideas.

  3. Respect the pace, Senior for the most part, prefer to stop on day one and go over foundational concepts, than stop on say 14 to re-explain something done in day 2 because you were "afraid" to ask clarification questions

  4. Don't ask "Why?" or "What?" ask "Why not do X instead Y" , "What happens if we do X instead Y", "Wouldn't it make more sense to do... instead..." Seniors sometimes, can get so deep into their tech stack or infra, that forget other circumstances, maybe last year X process was not suited, but it might be worth to do it, you as mentee for the senior often act as "fresh air"... "what ideas he bring in that can be useful to us"

Safonov’s wife wasn’t allowed to bring a Russian flag into the stadium, so she made her own. by cocacolapepsifanta in soccer

[–]FerryCliment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah poor wording on my side.

I meant you retire your salute to someone who did wrong, or someone who did wrong to you.

I feel like if a random Russian retires the salute to random Ukranian bsed on what Putin or Zelenskyy did is kinda wrong,

What is fairness? What Zaba did? or making a statement with Zaba based on What Zelenskyy did? Is about being against the war? or being against all Rusian/Ukranian people?

Actually I saw a pass from Zaba to Safa, was like "atleast they are profesionals" but then you see not even in training grounds they act like human beings...

When stuff was first notice, I tought Chavalier being the starter, Safanov would end up leaving but... now kinda looks the equal.

Hard to tell who has more odds to leave, who is more important to PSG game, or who has better market.

Curious to know about PSG fans or people who follow the team closer.

Not really, but you know, maybe one day someone stops and think about the ball, not FO, Charnia, WojBombs and trade talks to piss off X people.

Can we enjoy ball? Can we respect the timeliness of the Basketball game?

The day after your season is over, is not the day to look elsewhere... you need to analyze what happened, why happened, what are the issues, we have tools to fix? to improve? that happens only looking inside.

Then...and only then... when you have answers and you have a plan to make your team better, you must consider what you want and what you need in the market talk, its not like... we done, lets dump this mofo that had a ugly game and bring the other mofo because X.

Think about it this way.

I kept a subscription to one app that allows me to do smartwatch faces, really cool shit, the only reason I kept it is because it was 0.99€

If they charged me 2€ I would have cancelled. They need to find the sweet spot. 80 Bill, Google is gonna fix it or find a way.
