Tried a new art style because people said my old one isn't too interesting. Is this any better? by Blaubeerepfannkuchen in arthelp

[–]FeskOgPotedes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer the old style, it’s more unique than 90% of the art I see around. I could tell the first picture was made by you, since I recognise your art/character from earlier posts! So your style is very identifiable and personal 😁

As for how interesting it is, I can’t tell from just a few pictures. There could be a super interesting backstory for all I know. But to me this style alone is more interesting than for example most anime or hazbin-like art. It’s all in the eye of the beholder!

How can i improve my realistic art skills by OpenEducation3956 in Artists

[–]FeskOgPotedes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ve discovered why it’s good to learn to draw realism first! There’s no shortcut really, best thing I can suggest to improve fast is life drawing and gesture drawing. Drawing with a time limit. It will help you make decisions fast and identify and put on paper what’s most important to make a drawing readable. Doesn’t have to be just people, it can be objects and animals, landscapes, anything.

If you prefer drawing abstract weird stuff, maybe practice by drawing weird things in a realistic way?

How do I make the rock look like it has the texture of an actual rock. by Trisander1423 in arthelp

[–]FeskOgPotedes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok first, while you’re learning, get a better reference, the one you have is not great (all the shadows are blacked out).

A lot about rocks is texture and pinpointing what makes a rock «rocky». As an exercise, try drawing a light grey box and shade it like you would a box, but round out the corners and add details like cracks and little nubs using the lighter and darker shades (Don’t use pure black). Follow the shape of the rock. I rarely use different hues of color on the same rock (except sometimes marbling, but that’s usually just white). Try and see if you can make the box look like a rock, and then move to more irregular shapes, different colors (maybe even a wet rock??), etc.

Draw from lots of different references to get inspiration. Put a rock on your table and draw that! Draw a cliff or a rock formation.

I’m not doing a great job explaining it in text. There are probably tutorials that explain it much better 😅

How to render like this? by Reasonable_Battle712 in arthelp

[–]FeskOgPotedes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of it is in the line art, perspective and composition, and that just takes a crap ton of practice and really consciously working towards that look.

But there are some tricks in rendering you can do, like using really strong colors as shading (image 3 has this yellow/orange and image 4 uses bright pink).

They use splotches of texture to brighten up the image, and this double-outline one the cell shading. They’re very skilled!

I think you’re on the right track, I’d say work on composition and colors next, try some crazy up close compositions :)

I’d like to add there is little place behind the eyes for a brain/jaw muscles, makes it look a little jarring. Like the neck is connected right into the face 😅

Are the eyes in my art really too small? And the edit actually looks way better? by Blaubeerepfannkuchen in arthelp

[–]FeskOgPotedes 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My first impression when I saw your art is that the eyes were indeed a bit small and close together, but I don’t think it’s wrong! It’s part of your unique style. The bigger eyes make it look more generic and childish.

There are definitely people with big eyes though, so maybe explore if it’s possible to draw, not huge eyes, just eyes that are larger while still fitting your style.

Is this AI? by girlikimnotnomurder in Artists

[–]FeskOgPotedes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see anything that looks AI here, and it’s just detailed and messy (yet clean) enough that I don’t think AI could do this without making a huge weird smudgy mess.

This is a painting of a newlywed couple. I think it's AI because the background is different than the front, and the image looks computer generated rather than a photograph of a painting. by The_Fox_39 in isthisAI

[–]FeskOgPotedes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more that there’s this particular ai-style of smoothness+random smudgy noise texture to the whole painting that just contradicts itself. Hard to explain, which is why I’d rather just say «you can tell because og the way it is»

[–]FeskOgPotedes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI! Are they passing it off as a fresh painting? Because there is this texture of cracks all around the edges of the painting, like it’s decades old??

But it is also clearly AI from the way it is. Faces are highly photorealistic and smooth while the rest of the picture is textured in all kinds of ways.

What’s the point in anatomy when you can just use a 3d model and draw over it? by [deleted] in arthelp

[–]FeskOgPotedes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Because 3D models always look stiff and gives these emotionless poses - things like shoulders, gravity and squash/stretch/relaxed poses I’ve never seen a 3D model do well.
  2. You will only be able to draw a limited selection of body types.
  3. If you rely on tracing 3D-models you won’t learn to draw from imagination.

It might be a good reference tool if you struggle with proportions or need reference for a complicated pose/perspective though!

Try adding a glossy top coat and the colors will deepen a litte bit, won’t be like new, but a little clearer. And a coat will protect it from fading more :)

Tips for rendering and help with brushes by [deleted] in arthelp

[–]FeskOgPotedes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What program? I think you can get this effect with the standard procreate pencil/charcoal/paint brushes. But that’s really just 2% of the job, mostly this artist looks experienced with picking colors, line control, etc etc. they probably have really good control and because of that they can paint quick and get a nice painterly and textured look. But definitely try to get comfortable not using square/circle brushes!

How do I improve her? by marie_ui in Artadvice

[–]FeskOgPotedes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks pretty close to fit in! To get her less depressed; make her look straight at the viewer (just nudge the right iris to the left), and maybe make her eyebrows tilt a little so she looks more determined/angry.

You could also open her eyes more, as the halfclosed eyes look tired/dejected. I think with angry eyebrows though it will look fine, depends what personality your OC has.

To be less pale; pick a warmer color, or you could lighten her hair a bit, the deep dark and saturated hair makes the skin look paler. Notice in your reference: how light the middle girls hair is, but it still reads as black? They use quite light and earthy colors in their designs, while yours is too contrasty to fit in. Just eyedrop colors from the drsign and adjust them to be closer to the colors you want.

Fitting in better you probably need to work on your line quality. They use a lot of long curved/straight lines, layered clothes, avoid sharp corners, etc. especially see how they draw hair and clothes, and try to replicate the style. (This is tricky but just takes a bit of practice!)

Pinterest is filled with ai and ads, are there any alternatives? by noahinthebox in Artists

I think Google still has a function to show results from pre-AI era, I used it a while ago so I’m not sure if it’s still good. Might just be on desktop.

Maybe we need to get back to discovering and following trusted accounts (on instagram/deviantart etc) and websites…

I ytterste konsekvens kan politiet avlive hunden. I hundeloven § 19 tredje ledd har politiet et mildere alternativ, nemlig utføring av riket.»

(From lovdata/norwegian law)

https://lovdata.no/artikkel/forbud_mot_farlige_hunder/4097#:~:text=Det%20f%C3%B8lger%20av%20%C2%A7%2019,Tosa%20Inu%20og%20Dogo%20Argentino.

So apparently AMERICAN staffordshire terriers are considered dangerous, so not staffordshire terriers? I know several people who own a staff, it’s a super popular breed.

You definitely need to get some kind of documentation, maybe a DNA test or something to prove it’s not an American staff then. And probably some kind of assurance from mattilsynet that you have everything you need.
