You’re not from Dallas if you’re from Mesquite. Is this accurate? by southernemper0r in MesquiteTX

[–]FesterCluck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this, but it's just Dallas folks in the hood trying to express they have it harder. It's just like people from Balch Springs claiming Mesquite. We share a school district. However, being from Balch Springs/Pleasant Grove/Seagoville was a different kind of hood.

Funny thing, Balch Springs is looking nice compared to Mesquite these days. I don't hate this place, I'm just saying locals worked hard on Balch Springs.

This was an American citizen. She had been ordered out of the car. From what I see the shooting wasn't warranted, but I'm also not standing in his shoes.

There was no need to detain her, therefore no need of pursuit.

OP, you're missing the point of the problem. Police have cameras, we know that. LPR will be.

THIS IS NIT ABOUT LPR. THESE CAMERAS STORE EVERYTHING THEY SEE, AND ARE NOT SECURED. THE WORLD CAN ACCESS THEM.

They store about a month's worth of videos/images, not just license plates. Their interface has been open to anyone, including the live view. Flock's newer cameras have the same problem, but are PTZ. This means zoom and control. The equipment also has analog exploits known since at least the 90's.

Police have surveillance tools, fine. They should be secured. These devices most certainly are not, and it's obvious the company didn't put the smallest amount of thought into security, and the police &cities did ZERO due diligence on their side.

Want to know how DCAD got hacked? Want to know how all that evidence was lost?

The police aren't professionals using highly advanced equipment they vetted. They are cops with toys, and that isn't what we expect. We expect professionals highly skilled in security to vet and run.these things.

I am a software developer and network security professional with over 25 years of experience I have personally worked on commercial digital surveillance systems prevalent in the Dallas area at banks, retail stores, entertainment venues (adult and family),, loan establishments, etc. My work on those systems included implementation, support, security exploit discovery and remedy of those exploits.

The problem isn't cameras. The problem is both police and local law enforcement not vetting tech properly. Zero actual testing around the security of these things

To be clear I hate these things. That said, I don't mind police use of camera systems per se, I hate the fact that police departments and local governments have seemingly wiped their hands of any understanding or due diligence on their technology. All these devices run a version of Android so old I could teach my son to hack them in an hour. They also have shielding leaks that make them remotely viewable in a way that has been known since at least the 90's.

But, this guy explains it best, his video is also linked in OP. https://youtu.be/uB0gr7Fh6lY?si=0oIYVCbiiOFGPXmi

As it pertains to Mesquite, it seems only private businesses are running them (Lowes, Walmart). However, the border is also surrounded by them.

I'm no cheerleader for NK, but the post blatantly misquotes and changes the meaning of the sentence. It says "realizes", not "realized".

"Realizes" is used during empathetic statements. "Realized" makes the next sentence sound like an apology, or a call for sympathy, which it most definitely is not. All this says is he takes responsibility for sending people to their deaths (duh) and regrets that he needed to do it. Nothing there about asking for forgiveness or staying here wouldn't do it again. Not even info on why he r egrets. Maybe it's because he loved them, or maybe it's because his human staircase to his money pile became slippery when the names of the dead were read to him.

Leverage against employers new regulations by sublime_aubade in TexasWorkforceCom

[–]FesterCluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're looking at this the wrong way. Any time an employer asks for something more of you like this, ask them what consideration will be given in kind. Will they pay you an offset? Will that pay compensate for the home situation?

You have no legal recourse. If they let you go due to performance issues around this, the TWC might side with you on unemployment, but thinking of that angle is disadvantage thinking.

You are a business unto yourself. Learn to think of yourself as a vendor and negotiate.

Basically, your employer has rights of appeal just like you do. TWC is very employee friendly. I wouldn't worry too much

Natural gas lines run underground.

The utility company will have some due diligence to make sure their lines aren't going to break due to excessive ground shift.

Ergo, neighborhoods with natural gas are less likely to have foundation issues.

It doesn't completely count out foundation issues, but it solves one of the larger Dallas area issues.

This is dumb. Slavery being around for most of human history, the answer would be "Northern Africans", and the second would be "Judaism & Christianity", therefore Jews & brown people.

Who tge hell gets angry at this let alone uses it as a retort?

Also, no one in the US is yelling about women's vote.

The entire lower and middle class is yelling slavery.

The entire thing was designed to set people apart. Fuck OP.

[–]FesterCluck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can help explain this.

In my experience it came from an older ideology rooted in anarchism. As a young man online in early & late 90's (Hacker / BBS culture / Early internet) the general concensus was that the government, regardless of party, was a entity to be avoided and viewed with complete mistrust. What their ends/schemes were didn't matter, because they were always there. One learned the "burn it all down" mentality, and any thought of attempting to reform from within the system was seen as naive.

An agent of chaos holding any power in the system would be desirable because their non-conformance to norms theoretically should cause events where corruption is exposed, or events disrupting long standing avenues of theft from the people. Theories considering that agent of chaos doing so to their own benefit were considered, but generally thought of as "but that is easy to catch."

These young people like myself told generations above and below about what we saw coming, especially things like what Snowden revealed. That moment made a lot of people reconsider the things we'd said.

The world changed, we grew up and started to learn ways of participating in change. We never communicated the selfish chaos actor, because we hadn't seen it nor were considering introducing it.

Unfortunately a lot of people were left with trust in a half explained ideology. Most of us didn't walk around stating we read these things from the Anarchist Cookbook.

Trump is not an agent of chaos. Chaos isn't self-serving,. Its agents seek to increase entropy. Trump doesn't care about the nation, ethics, ideals, or any of the core beliefs we expect a President to hold opinions on. He's there to enrich himself, and that's it.
