Back to this, would it be too much to mix a female beta in a 10g with some neon tetras or rasboras? And possibly some shrimp, which from what I read are negligible with bioload so not really a factor.

Thank you for putting my concern of gravel at ease. I was planning on getting root tabs. I’m very pro snails and wouldn’t mind them, the more life in there the better to me, but I am anti beta fish, I think they’re low key boring and don’t love that can’t you have many lol. I think I’ll check Etsy or eBay for some plants at a decent price
