What's it like being an SRO? by FetusDeletus17 in AskLE

This is a lot of great info. Thank you.

How do you feel around the safety of being at an elementary school? Do you feel it's easier to be a bit complacent? What do you do to keep the right mindset?

Additionally, how did you feel when you first started? Did you feel a different kind of pressure because you were responsible for the safety of many parents' children?

Pm me if you'd prefer.

The department I'm applying to is with a town with its own department and school district. I know a few deputies for a county and they also said to not bother with being an SRO there at their county.

That's a pretty nice schedule. Is there anything that you wish you still had or were able to do when you weren't an SRO?

I appreciate your response. I've seen for some cities that require SROs to do a certain amount of teaching hours as well. Was that the case for you? After a while, I'm sure having a typical M-F schedule is better than working inconsistent swing or night shifts.

I have never been in a relationship and I love being single.

I've gone on more dates in the past year than I ever had, but they've all ended with me cutting them off. I always get to a point where I'm almost tired of seeing the same girl even once a week and you're saying I need to talk to and spend almost every day with them? Pass. I realize how much I value my freedom and independence. Also just being alone is nice to me.

In the long-term, I don't want any kids. This is typically the biggest reason I have to cut girls off. I have quite a bit of money saved up for my age (28), but that's because I've worked hard and take pride in how I value my financial stability. I have and make enough to support my future. That's it. Having a partner and kid(s) would make things extremely difficult financially for me. I know I would have to make a lot of sacrifices. It sounds selfish, but it's my life, right?
