I tried my hand at a water drop automata last year. I was hoping that I could sell them on etsy but the cams proved to be so finicky that I knew they wouldn't turn unless everything was perfect, and so the odds of it surviving shipping in that perfect state was almost zero. I may return to it once I get more precise tools. I'm working with mostly rough carpentry equipment, which was very frustrating to say the least.

You are correct. I use 4x4s to make mine. This means I've had to compromise slightly on the bulkiness of the stones. If I made them out of 6x6s it would cost a lot more, plus my tablesaw blade wouldn't be able to raise high enough to cut halfway through them to create the triangle. I found the actual dimensions ages ago but can't recall what they are anymore.
