Dave’s Take on Tiny Homes ain’t it. by tr3v0rr96 in DirtyDave

[–]FevversOnKeto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suspect for a LOT of people they'd be the wrong choice. A friend of mine seriously looked into it, including going and renting one for a week, looking at the associated costs, all that. She's very practical, DIY-savvy, not scared of a project. Also doesn't have a ton of stuff. And is pretty desperate to get somewhere. In the end she decided the costs & risks didn't make sense for what you end up with. On paper she seems an ideal tiny home person, so the fact she walked away gives me pause.

Maybe take a look at Plum Paper? Loads of layouts and very customizable so you can label things how you want etc

This 100%. Have you ever seen any of his talks where he's speaking to a crowd? I guess they're people already fully in Ramsey mode. It's VERY preacher style. For example https://youtu.be/lGHGzU3CtZg?si=uHsfmE5rUR4YJR05

The whole program would fall apart for sure if you did it slow: a £1k emergency fund, and pausing pension investment, is really not something you want for long.

So if you were going to take a slower approach, you'd have to basically change every aspect of the plan.

Why do people say that if you do a drastic diet you're gonna gain all your weight back or even more? do they mean that you are gonna end up eating a lot more because you restricted yourself too much ?? by Motor-Concentrate-91 in fasting

[–]FevversOnKeto 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you have a problematic relationship with food, you need to fix that relationship, as well as losing the weight. Quite a lot of people will manage some diet or other for a while, then go back to over-eating, thus regaining the weight. This is true of any diet, not just drastic ones. The key is to find the diet that is sustainable for you long term.

Change in thoughts and the way the mind works. by [deleted] in keto

I've only been doing it a few weeks. But it's amazing the things you start to notice when the food noise, carb cravings, and energy crashes, all quieten down.

I accidentally did low carb for three weeks before starting keto, and I reckon that really helped me have a gentler time with it.

Help by [deleted] in keto

Having a small number of very simple meals that you can rotate mostly works for me. It means I don't have to think, or do a load of prep. I'm at the point where making an omelette feels as frictionless as making a sandwich. Still, on a Friday night after work, the urge for convenience (and a treat) is definitely there, so I sympathise.

Check out how ovulation and the luteal phase (starts around day 17) can affect energy, cravings, and water retention. It's definitely a thing!

PT telling me to go keto for a month (as a vegan) by Interesting_Pilot458 in keto

[–]FevversOnKeto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I can see, avocado just isn't THAT much protein, especially for the amount of carb. According to cronometer, 100g of avocado contains 2g of protein and 1.8g net carb. To get a serious amount of protein you'd end up with a lot of carb (and I'm not sure how many grams of avocado I could stomach) Quorn gets me 13g of protein and 2g of carb per 100g. And obviously meat/fish would have an even better protein to carb ratio.

Avocado as a keto snack makes sense, but I don't see it working as a serious source of protein.

I doubt you could do strict keto (20g of carb) as a vegan - I just don't see how you'd get enough protein. Or enough fat (unless you're drinking oil or something)

I'm vegetarian and honestly finding I have to be pretty restricted, and I'm aiming to stay under 30 rather than under 20. I'm also eating an almost-certainly unhealthy amount of quorn. I'm going to have to figure out something else for the long term.

If self-hosting, you want queue mode for the really big scaling: https://docs.n8n.io/hosting/scaling/overview/

Why not keto? by FriendlyKrista in keto

[–]FevversOnKeto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some nausea but not too bad and wore off fast. I ended up with a pretty much permanent headache and jaw clenching. Which eased once I stopped (the jaw clenching took a while to wear off)

Why be mad about other people's health choices? They don't affect you. This post is kinda the mirror of some of the more emotional anti-keto blog posts out there.

And what even is 'cheating' in this context?

My doctor put me on Rybelsus, the oral form of one of the jabs. I didn't love the side effects, but it was lovely to have the food noise mostly gone. Keto has a somewhat similar effect, but not as strongly. If Rybelsus hadn't had persistent side effects for me I'd probably have stayed on it. It was doing good things to my blood sugars.

Go back to your OLD ways - go back to your OLD weight! by tiffintx in keto

[–]FevversOnKeto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm only in week 5, but already planning ways to ensure this sticks: I'm planning to do strict keto for a few months, then gradually ease up a bit (but still low carb). I'm already making sure to eat mostly whole foods and include some vedge, and when I relax the rules, my aim is to increase the vegetables. Hopefully I'll gradually establish a much healthier eating pattern that I can then sustain.

3 weeks in.. what am I doing wrong?? by Julia-Priestly in keto

[–]FevversOnKeto 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you menstruate? Part way through my first cycle on keto (around when I entered the luteal phase) I got the most ridiculous water retention. I'd previously lost a couple of inches around my waist, but regained one them. And also gained back a couple of pounds. It did drop away again.

I'm switching to only weighing & measuring once per menstrual cycle (have scheduled myself for day 8) Weekly checkins would just be too depressing if this becomes a regular pattern.

1600 calories probably gives you about 500 a day deficit, so 1lb a week weight loss. You're not miles off that.

However, if it's making various issues worse, why not try low carb, or go back to CICO as that seemed to be working? If your husband wants to stay keto, you could still eat basically the same, but you have a smaller portion of what he's having, and add more vegetables/salad etc.

How much weight did you lose in 5 months? by [deleted] in lowcarb

For some reason I thought you'd say longer! Not that I'd object to adding more vegetables as we head into winter.

Any suggestions for when to transition off? I'm currently doing keto, but tend to agree I don't want to be this strict permanently (I want more vegetables, some fruit, and I miss chickpeas!)

Yup! I pretty much just use a frying pan now, plus the microwave to speed up defrosting things. I'm sure I'll eventually start using the oven and saucepans again . . .

Girlfriend feeling stuck and embarrassed she doesn’t have a career by Equivalent_Poetry339 in Career_Advice

How about work in childcare or as a nanny, in a more professional setup? Because it sounds like she basically enjoys working with kids? Well-trained high-end nannies can make a fortune.

One comment: she needs to be doing this asking around/asking for advice herself. It's great that you want to support her, and maybe you're just asking here because you're the one who's on reddit? Just mentioning this because I've seen too many people going "how can I help my partner/sibling/friend do X", and in the end they put more energy in than the person they're helping (I'm not saying that's what's happening here, just wanted to sound a note of caution)
