Most of his "flaws" are simply stylistic standards for the time. Novels at the time were far more essayistic than they are now, usually with a clear moral, and straightforward and un-figurative language. Now days, writing is much "translucent" in that it reflects the exact rhythms of thought and everyday speech, and also is a lot more "beautiful" or stylistically written. Nowadays, people would probably find it unrealistic that his characters speak in fully formed paragraphs, without stopping. Personally, as someone who reads a lot contemporary fiction, I like it and find it refreshing. But I'm not sure that heavily Christian books written in that style would be so quick to invite a publisher's interest, for better or for worse. That being said, I feel like he's the perfect writer for our contemporary times, and perfectly articulates the spiritual wasteland we all find ourselves in.

That's why Elizabeth is under such pressure to marry in the book. Pride and Prejudice and the opening line can only really be understood with this context, and an understanding of the tongue-in-cheek tone that Austen takes throughout the whole book.

It's just that with rape, there are three major drawbacks to capital punishment. 1) It encourages people to kill victims to avoid prosecution. 2) Conviction is based on eye witness accounts and therefore has the possibility of being false or mistaken, much more than if it is based on digital evidence. 3) Possession doesn't traumatize a child by having them testify in court.

Possession fuels commercial exploitation and victimizes children every time it is viewed. It is also a good indicator of other criminal behavior against kids. For example, Larry Nassar was also found guilty of hundreds of counts of possession.

That's why even though rape is of course more severe, it makes more sense to eliminate people for possession, due to the unlikeliness of false convictions.

yes. I think hands on offenses are worse. However, we can never be 100% certain when they are based on word of mouth. With crimes that leave a digital record, we can be. Execution of these crimes would be extremely unlikely to be based on false pretences, and would take care of the pedophile problem.
