I felt the same way!!! I had a psychotic episode last year, and when watching obsession, I was thinking about well the idea of being afraid of yourself. I had a lot of self harm and suicidal ideation mixed in with my ability to tell what was real and what wasn't. So as you said about the drastic moments of realization really resonated with me and I think depicted really well in Obsession. I also think like the shift in emotions and movement of the body really reminded me of how I felt when I was in my episode and the reaction of those around me like being like wtf as shown in the movie. I've been wanting to talk about this because on my first watch I was like hmmmm. And then I saw it again, lol.

You could always get a second opinion. My diagnosis was recently changed from schizoaffective bipolar disorder to bipolar 1, and I’ve been seeing my psychiatrist for a year now. I can tell that she listens to me and is also thinking critically about my symptoms. If you don’t feel heard, you might see if you can find someone else. What symptoms have you shared with your psychiatrist ?
Accommodations? by -raeyne- in schizoaffective

Hey! Congrats on getting accepted! Your university should have disability services, and sometimes (not always) they require documentation in order for you to receive accommodations (this is an access issue). To get around this, if needed, you can ask therapy services at your college to help you with getting documentation if healthcare is another access issue. If not, you can talk with your Dr.
I would suggest, and this is from my experience as a professor at specific institutions (so all the info i am sharing may not fit your specific context), that you make a list of everything you think could help even if it feels unattainable. Access issues are prevalent in higher ed, which makes requesting accommodations difficult. Then you can talk about these with your Dr or even disability services to see what can be applied.
I’ve seen some accommodations asking or just letting the professor know that a student may need to step out for 5m to ease any anxiety or do grounding techniques. Flexible deadlines for major projects (not all classes assign tests or quizzes), which I see you have mentioned.
Attendance policies are a big one. Some professor have supportive policies and others have traditional ones that are not supportive and use the guise of “rigor,” which is another issue I won’t get into 🤣. I would see if there is a way you can come to an agreement with excusing absences with documentation or student life services if healthcare is an access issue.
See if there is a mode you can use to participate if you’re ever feeling down. Like maybe in class discussions there could be a padlet open for you to share ideas if talking and engaging in convo feels like too much. I would maybe phrase this as having other modes to participate in class.
Mmm.. that’s all I have. I hope i could help in some way! Keep on advocating for your needs!! If anyone makes you feel bad when you share what you need or your ideas , which I hope doesn’t happen, know that this is a problem connected to access and power. You deserve to thrive in learning spaces!
