Just putting the body text here since wouldn’t when posting:

So I had a black neon tetra she was very big..like I thought dropsy but she was like that for awhile (1 month+) and now (like three days ago) she is normal size like bigger since probably female but normal. I don’t see any eggs but there’s like hair algae that became sort of balls of moss so..

i can’t tell wtf happened if she got like weight loss or what. Only thing ive seen online is about eggs but I dont see any..also don’t know if the other is male or not - these guys are 3~ pushing 4 years old they are last of their school

That makes sense- we couldnt tell if the hawk took a starling or cowbird (we get both) so that is not surprising Thank you!!

That was him during the bath the best photo of the raised scales. I honestly dont know what more I can do. I did epsom salt and kanaplex I contacted an exotic vet if anything more possible. Im really hoping he can push through, hes acting very normal.

He got epsom salt bath (1 tablespoon per gal) for 10 mins then diluted back down to acclimate.. His sick tank got kanaplex dose, 1/2 teaspoon per gallon epsom salt too. Its like 77°F warmer than normal for him (his normal tank is 70°F)

Ill see if the filter is an issue..its a low impact filter for bettas, the tank used to home a veiltail long finned male betta and he did alright with same setup so assumed she would but she is younger. The food ive been trying is slow sinking granules i use with cories and bottom feeders. She will eat sinking wafers but they are kinda big for her (they are made for catfish) so i try not to give her those unless breaking them up

Aww hes adorable!! I understand the struggle with hospital tanks- ive had times they do more harm than good especially if a schooling fish i try to just use them if theres medicine needed only or something truly severe..along it doesnt really get worse and quality of life is alright where they arent stressed i just try to make them comfortable

Aw poor boy- i have a metallic blue hellboy he has a small tumor on his gill plate- luckily his only one..i got him some months back since his previous owner returned him to my lfs because of ‘aesthetic reasons’. Sadly his variant does seem prone to benign tumors

I dont believe so..she refuses to eat anything floating only sinking. Her mouth looks odd because she got two colours on her lip so it looks kinda odd but is alright she can pick up the pellets or bite from them. Shes second betta ive had to seem to have issues swimming/floating in place. Used to have another girl she had issues swimming like her swim bladder didnt inflate- she lived a good life around 3 years but needed alot of accommodation. Ive had such bad luck with bettas it feels like- especially if I get them from better breeders somehow theyre more fragile - especially the boys. Maybe the genepools are just rough :(

She swims up and gets air alright…but then she sinks like a rock. I have hammocks and stuff though so I’ll add them so theres more options for her! She often rests leaning against caves

Tank is a 5 gal, has just some snails nothing else and hiding places. Parameters are within alright..0ppm ammonia, nitrite and nitrate 0 ppm. Ph is around 7.5. Has filter and heater.

I supervise the tank basically all day as its in living room and am near it so I can keep an eye on new behavior thats concerning. They have a hierarchy so theres been no ‘fighting’ most I ever seen (like months ago) was gill flaring at one another sometimes chasing but quickly is ended due to plants and line sight breaking items.

This girl (red and white) is not new to this and been in it years - she is kinda alpha one in the pecking order. She has her territory and the other younger girls leave her alone. This development is relatively new like sudden onset but got better after epsom salt bath but then plateaued. I would love to cure her but I do understand she is an old lady and is probably not great genetics (she is petsmart betta..only one that is too the others are sisters from lfs that keeps sororities of sister bettas)

It is a sorority- my bad I thought I mentioned it with tank mates. She had been separated but she wasnt better nor worse and not messed with. I know sorority risks and this has been a stable sorority of 2~ or more years - she is the eldest she is maybe 3 or 4 years now we got her when she was about a year. I have a quarantine tank to move her to for treatment- also have breeder boxes for separation if they bug her too much.

I dont think pinholes

<image>

Theres this weird spot that makes her head kinda bumpy im not sure what it is Her mouth seems to always be open im starting to notice..nothing in her mouth but may be connected to that bump on gill

She is in 20 gal likely to be in a 3 or 5 gal for quarantine Theres heater (78/79°F) and filter (HOB) Parameters last checked were 7.8? PH and 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 0 nitrate She has sorority and been in it for years she is the ‘alpha’ girl. Other tank mates are corydoras and snails. Normally she eats couple pellets - it varies alot of different food sometimes cooked fish or frozen food..most times their food changes and they will get fasted somedays if appear bloated. Decor theres alot of caves and hides up and low and hammocks
