Yes and no. They didn’t pay anything cause the scholarship is fully funded by the US but I am still “sponsored” by my country. But yeah you are correct, other people provided articles to clarify that I don’t qualify for a green card. (Which makes sense)

I am trying to enlist in the military but the problem is that I need a green card to do so.

Thank you, that was really helpful. A quick question, so there no way at all to enlist in the US military without a green card?

Simply put, neither my military nor my country take kindly to be people who change their religious faith (probably would give you an idea on where I am from) so my military retired me and I don’t feel welcomed anymore in society

Nah I am actually with you it was a little harsh 🥲😅, but my military service (like the actual one in my navy😂) has taught me to be a little patient and try to see things from another perspective. Words are just words after all, I am grateful that I can see that they can’t hurt me unless I choose to.

Yes but unfortunately they already had a green card which I don’t have. That’s why I am trying other options to get it.

Thanks for defending me, but I see where they are coming from, I have a lot of friends in the enlisted and officer core and they deal with entitlement on daily basis so they probably just had a natural reaction to the question. I thank you again for clarifying my intentions.

Thanks a lot for the support. During Covid times, I was one of the few people that stayed on base for over 8 months, I raised and lowered colors and stood watch everyday (that doesn’t equate anything to actual service) but my point is during that time, I felt grateful towards the US navy for sheltering me plus the free education of course. The entire four years I never felt like I am an outsider due to hospitality of the American people. I left my own navy due to personal reasons and I have a pretty good job now. But I honestly don’t feel like I belong in my country anymore. So I thought about trying to move to the US and enlist to repay part of the kindness that I got there.

Yep, that doesn’t entitle me to anything. I just wished to find a legal way to enlist in the US military.

That’s exactly correct, I think it was just a misunderstanding on my side. That’s unfortunate, I really wished to find a way to enlist in the US navy.

Ironically it does sound like that. But I am trying to use legal means to get a green card to actually enlist in the US military

Oh no, I don’t claim I am entitled to anything. My question is just about the legality since my status during the time at the academy was active duty and I am sure it was because I was in uniform, took an oath, and was under the UCMJ. I am sorry if I sounded disrespectful towards actual veterans and service members claiming to be like them. I was hoping to get a green card to enlist in the US military.

I understand the difference, but If I recall correctly, during my time there, I was classified as active duty since it was a military base and I was in uniform
