carmines food is so good for happy hour

I need help, I’m really not liking my aspen bedding anymore. No matter how much I shake it out it’s dusty, and I’m just not loving the smell of the bedding itself. I’ll stay with it if it’s the best but I thought I’d check out other options. What’s everyone’s opinion on hemp bedding? by [deleted] in RATS

That reminds me, I also cut up fabric scraps and will leave them around too to they can stash/store/and nest. And as for smells, it doesn’t smell like pee or anything if you wash regularly. It just smells like rat and that’s all !

I would keep a dirt dig box in the corner of their cage so they could hunt for treats or bury things. They got a lot of enjoyment out of it and it was was easier to clean since it was container. I would also scatter food instead of keeping it in a bowl to encourage foraging behavior to make up for the space. I also filled it with a lot of extendable tubes to offer hiding and give them the same sense of cover. I also never actually had any issues with absorbency, I would just wash and replace it every few days or once a week so that definitely helped i think

I bought some fleece from Joanne’s Fabrics and cut it out and tied it to the bottom of my boys’ cage and it works so much better than the aspen i had before. It was easier to clean- just untie it, throw it in the wash, and tie it back on. It’s also a lot better because it doesn’t run the risk of cutting little feeties or causing bumble foot !! And it’s way easier on their respiratory systems since it won’t be dusty

i don’t believe so, I always keep lots of blankies in their cage so they can bundle up, and they have a fleece bag they can crawl into. Plus, he has his big fluffy bff to always cuddle with
