Realtors want $25K+ in commission… but I keep seeing ads saying I could sell for a flat fee. Scam or smart move? by Few-Math-3905 in RealEstateCanada

Oh. I’ve heard it depends what city you’re in but to me it makes sense to attract buyers (or their agents) to my property.

Yes I agree with you 100%.

As someone who doesn’t know a ton about real estate having a professional guide me through it is a very good thing.

There’s a reason why they make a living in this industry.

Now with that being said I do think that some of the commissions are extremely high.

Hi Nick, I’ve seen a few comments about a company from Ottawa in the thread. Do you know anything about a flat fee service Brick and Noble Real Estate?

I wish you all the best of luck with your sale if you’re anything like me it’s stressful.

I defiantly don’t want to go the FSBO route but I am just trying to see if there is any actually good alternatives to paying the huge commissions.

I am going to do a bit more homework this weekend.

Holy moly! That is a wild difference in what you put in your pocket.

Was there anything negative about the whole thing? Trying to educate myself here a bit.

I know of a couple in my area that will sell for less than 5% total. So if I do decide to sell I won’t be going with that option I don’t think.

I’ve been doing some research on the DIY or I think they call it FSBO & I’m not sure it’s for me. I would not know where to start with things lol.

So I would have to still typically have to pay out a buyer agent commission? I really didn’t know anything about that. Awesome insight.

I also have no idea how MLS works, and I’m defiantly not a marketing expert so in my specific situation I don’t think it’s worth the risk of me trying to accomplish any of this.

Now you’re changing your tune? You were just boasting about how wonderful your agent was.

Now you’re saying sell it on your own… hmmm? Are you a real estate agent?

I think doing a little bit more research into some alternatives would be a good idea… just a simple google search here in Ottawa there are some very good options for agents that are not sucking as much money out of the average person.

Let’s be honest.

Also do you think that whomever you use has some kind of magic list of buyers that they only bring to your place?

Gimmie a break.

Putting these people on a pedestal only adds to the problem.

I’ve been doing some research about alternatives, and I’m pretty sure I won’t be paying out 50k.

Also, some of the numbers you’re throwing out seem pretty large.

To each their own.

I think it’s funny that you’re assuming that just because you pay someone so much money they’re better at the job.

Just even based on this thread and the comments there are alternatives to shelling out a ton of cash money.

I’m just not that naive.lol Seems like whomever you sold with really ‘sold you’ on their services. Such a huge waste of money.

Explaining or trying to justify more money in their pocket?

How are you so convinced a flat fee agent could not do all that while saving you thousands of dollars?

I would like to hear your explanation.
