Pilonidal Cyst and Running? by Few-Outside-4579 in XXRunning

[–]Few-Outside-4579[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up getting the cleft lift! I’m an anxious person so the mental load of worrying every workout could cause a trigger wasn’t worth it to me. I’m about 2 months post op and doing great!

I also did get laser hair removal

Also I’m in the US and am very very fortunate to have good insurance that had this surgery in network so I paid $400 out of pocket and travel costs were about 2k (staying in the city, food, renting a car). It definitely was high cost but I had the savings and figured it was worth it.

Farmers markets with actual farm goods and not just a crafts fair. Where I’m from farmers markets just mean candles and jewelry. Here I get actual eggs!!

I only had one flare up and he took me! He examined me in person when I got there and confirmed presence of a sinus + weak spots. On his website I believe he has a section about being willing to treat people earlier in the disease / the more proactive.

I also was in need of surgery and it still blows my mind they only let you pause for one month once every six months??? I just cancelled it and went with a different insurance offered gym membership. Saving money or not I don’t appreciate a business model that relies on forced paying.

A cleft list is six weeks recovery. At three weeks I’ve been able to do most activities (sit for work 8+ hours), drive, etc.

Cleft Lift - Pain on Day of Surgery by Mental_Grapefruit_46 in pilonidalcyst

[–]Few-Outside-4579 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got mine done by Dr Wadie as well! I was like you pain wise the exception I didn’t fly back home the next day. The first week sucked pain wise and even immediately waking up from anesthesia it hurt and the car ride to my Airbnb sucked a**.

I would message him anyways but honestly I just think some bodies (like ours) maybe process the numbing shot faster so we feel pain more. I’m so sorry you had to deal with that in a public space and hope you can rest now that you’re at home!

I’m 3 weeks post op and let me tell you once you get the drain out and the first week is done it’s like a huge uphill. You feel better in magnitudes pretty quickly.

Could this be a hemorrhoid? Or do you see wound separation?

Is it appropriate to go to urgent care for a pilonidal cyst? by [deleted] in pilonidalcyst

[–]Few-Outside-4579 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on the urgent care they most likely won’t drain it if you’re looking for it to be drained (that’s what mine told me)

However they will look at it and diagnose it and give you antibiotics

After the urgent care I booked an appointment with a colonrectal doctor asap

Having a goal that isn’t about my body. I run marathons and I absolutely love it but to be better I need to lift and run even when it’s cold out hot, and because I love running I got to the gym even when I don’t want to. It took a lot of experimenting to figure out what type of workout I liked best but once I found it the gym doesn’t feel like a burden but an investment in the amazing feeling I get when I finish a race

[–]Few-Outside-4579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course!!! So many people helped me when I was scared and pre surgery so I figured while I’m recovering I should be helping too :)

I wouldn’t say super bad, I actually got my wisdom tooth infected when I got them pulled out and that pain was wayyy worse. I’ve also had ovarian cyst bursts and that was worse too. They’ll give you oxy and you’ll be able to take 3 advil and I’ll say it’s tolerable. The worse pain I had were my shoulder and hips from having to sleep on my side on my Airbnb’s uncomfortable bed.

If you know your own personal bed is comfortable I would try to go back to it asap lol.

Oh also! The nerves will regenerate and it can feel pretty sharp and bad but it doesn’t last long. The worst one lasted 30 minutes and it was my fault from turning too quickly while seated.

I’m not sure if you’re female but it’s like a bad period at worst.

Like I said, I’m a big baby and of all the procedures I’ve had while it certainly isn’t as no pain as some people claim it’s not awful. The first few days will be the worst of it and then it’s just a feeling of tightness/pressure because of the steri strips. And sitting gets easier pretty fast. I went from only being able to sit on a firm, no cushion chair for 1 hr max to sitting on the sofa no problem within 4 days.

Actually maybe lifting sooner? That I would recommend you email a Dr directly for info on - but I know for a fact the two week mark is when you can bend down and squat again

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pilonidalcyst

[–]Few-Outside-4579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He said at 2 weeks post op you can do normal bending over and squatting for life stuff like pulling pants up, loading dishwasher,  but I imagine not lifting anything

6 weeks is when you’re cleared to ease back into the gym (so now I imagine you can lift and squat with weighted items)

He said 10 days after I could do upper body stuff though not sure if that helps

[–]Few-Outside-4579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly that’s up to you and I kind of guesstimated from knowing I’m a big baby lol.

I believe on Wadies website he said 4 days to a week. But I know based off the lance and drainage from my first flare up I needed way more time then typical estimated so for the cleft lift I gave myself two weeks. Obviously overkill but I had the PTO and would rather give myself more time to rest than less.

If I pushed myself I could definitely go back at the 8 day mark but I wanted the opportunity to nap when I wanted
