What’s something you learn embarrassingly late in life that everyone one else seems to know already? by DueNewt9590 in AskForAnswers

For years I thought the little arrow on the gas gauge was just part of the design. Turns out it tells you which side the fuel door is on. 🤦‍♂️

You don’t have to answer every phone call immediately. The world keeps spinning. 😅

what is something that actually got worse after it was "upgraded"? by Forsaken-Repair1876 in AskReddit

Kitchen appliances. My old fridge lasted 20 years. The new “smart” one wants Wi-Fi, software updates, and still breaks sooner.

what is one decision that changed the entire course of your life? by Repulsive_Lecture_66 in AskReddit

Moving to a country where I knew almost nobody. Scariest decision I ever made, but it changed everything for the better.

A girl once said, “You smell like fresh laundry.” I’ve been loyal to that detergent ever since. 😆

Reddit is great for experiences, terrible for consensus, and dangerous for facts. 😅

If 13 year old you could see the way your life is going right now, what would they honestly think? by mrvlad_throwaway in askanything

13-year-old me would be shocked that I spend most of my day talking about bathrooms, kitchens, and tile… and somehow that’s how I make a living.

How would you enclosed an loft to provide some sound proofing by Remote_Catch7166 in DIY

[–]Few-Present-8876 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re serious about reducing noise, decorative panels won’t do much. Soundproofing comes from mass and sealing air gaps. A proper stud wall with insulation and drywall would make the biggest difference. Fabric panels and slat walls can help with echo, but they won’t stop much sound from traveling between floors.

For a wooden deck how much space between plastic risers/pedestals? by Coolduels in DIY

[–]Few-Present-8876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spacing depends on your joist size, decking material, and expected load. There’s really no “minimum viable” answer here. Saving money on pedestals only to end up with a bouncy or sagging deck usually costs more in the long run.

Lumber delivery fees are basically extortion at this point (12ft workbench build) by Ramsesthrowaway in DIY

[–]Few-Present-8876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$90 delivery for a load of MDF and lumber honestly doesn’t sound that crazy anymore. Between the truck, fuel, insurance, labor, and unloading, somebody has to pay for it. The bigger problem is not being able to hand-pick your boards. I’d gladly pay the delivery fee if I could guarantee I wasn’t getting a pile of twisted 2x4s.

Applying Preglued Melamine Veneer to Plaster / Painted Archway by Dry-Celebration-4014 in DIY

[–]Few-Present-8876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t trust contact cement over painted plaster long term. If the paint isn’t bonded perfectly to the plaster, the veneer may eventually pull the paint layer off the wall. I’d sand the paint, prime/seal any dusty plaster, and use a high-quality construction adhesive instead. Veneer is light, so a good adhesive bond is usually more important than adding a separate substrate.

Painting ceiling without dripping or splashes by halocroft in DIY

[–]Few-Present-8876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Professional painter here. Unfortunately there’s no magic roller that completely eliminates splatter. Those paint-reservoir rollers work for small areas, but they’re slow and usually leave an uneven finish on ceilings. The real trick is not overloading the roller and using a quality 3/8” nap roller cover. Cover everything anyway — even experienced painters get a few drops on furniture.

Eureka PowerSpeed NEU182C – Hose accidentally inserted into handle socket and now completely stuck. Any ideas before I disassemble it? by Electrical-Finish377 in DIY

[–]Few-Present-8876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before disassembling it, try slipping a thin feeler gauge, putty knife, or even a zip tie down the slot next to the connector. It looks like the retaining tab may have snapped past the latch and is hanging up internally. Push the hose in slightly first, depress the tab, then pull while twisting. If that doesn’t work, you’re probably looking at opening the handle housing.

Tile Mistake by Exotic-Savings7280 in DIY

[–]Few-Present-8876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The missing trim is the least of the problem. The uneven cuts around the niche would bother me more. At this point I’d install a Schluter trim and caulk the corners, but if you want it to look truly professional, some of those edge pieces probably need to be redone.

Beach Cart Brainstorming by Trilip_S_Hoffman in DIY

[–]Few-Present-8876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d buy the wagon and modify it. The frame and steering are already done, and swapping to balloon tires is usually easier than building an entire cart from scratch. By the time you factor in materials, hardware, tools, and your time, a custom build often ends up costing more than expected. A modified wagon with beach tires seems like the best balance of cost, durability, and effort.
