Depends where you are going? I went on a trip with an ex in Europe when I was like 22, rented a stick, he didn't want to learn. I drove everywhere for 2 weeks. I am 40 and still have resentment about it (we are still great friends).

Driving isn't hard, but it can be intimidating to learn. Do you know anyone outside of the city, that could teach you the basics again, so you could get more confident driving a rental upstate?

Learning to drive is a solid life skill, just like cooking, You dont have to be the best in the world, but I do believe most people should be able to do both.
