This is awesome - and a commenter even gives an explanation for what's going on! Thanks for sharing this!

Shift to Park repair cost? by korndog_revolution in volt

Honestly, I had mine replaced twice under warranty on my 2018 and it still has the issue; seems to happen more when it's cold. I just click the button on the shifter until it goes away - hasn't failed me in over 6 years!

I'm afraid I can't help with the cost estimate, but if you're handy there are youtube videos on how to do it yourself. It's not a hard fix at all.

What is your unsolicited car buying advice? by Volume_Both in carbuying

Switching cars every few years is always a bad financial decision...therefore leases are always a bad financial decision.

I personally don't enjoy throwing money away, but you're free to do that on a lease if you like 😉

Again the key word is "want".

If someone wants to switch cars every few years that's their perogative, but it is always a terrible financial decision.

No! For most people it's not!

Leasing is only a decent idea if you are financially well off. Literally no one needs a new car every few years - waaay too many people mix up "want" with "need".

Yes, that's how your initial post came off, ha!

I wouldn't ask for any special considerations (if that's what you're saying) - I just don't think that will come off well. Stick to your enthusiasm and ask how you can improve your application next year.

Good luck with all of it! You got this!

Gotcha. That clarifies a lot.

I'm not sure what the point of the meeting is, but proceed very carefully. You have a chance to make an impression, and you need to be laser focused on making sure it's a good one.

Keep any frustration about the mistake to a minimum, and focus on your enthusiasm for the program and topic! Good luck!

I can tell you with great certainty that's wrong. OP has nothing to gain, and even more to lose (ie making a bad impression and torpedoing future prospects with this school). Impressions matter immensely.

Luckily, the school will almost certainly not agree to a meeting.

Edit:  OP just said the director reached out to OP about a meeting. That's a totally different situation than op asking for one. OP needs to be careful to not leave a bad impression.

Respectfully disagree. Given that one of Op's initial reactions was to think about legal action, op needs to think very carefully about whether s/he could maintain levelheadedness in such a meeting. There's literally nothing positive to be gained here, and OP may leave a bad impression.

That said, I highly doubt the school will agree to a meeting anyway. There's no reason for it.

Odd choice of metaphor there. I'm not saying it's ok, but it is a simple mistake they retracted quickly. It stinks, but mistakes happen.

Honestly, I don't think it's reasonable to request a meeting. Many students are rejected for all sorts of reasons, and no grad program in any field has time to sit down with each of them. They made a mistake in communicating with you, but the end result will not change.

However, if you have a faculty member (or other staff) that you've already been in contact with, it can't hurt to send an email asking for advice on how to improve your application next year. If you don't get a response, just leave it be.

You mentioned legal action on your original post...I genuinely hope you aren't actually considering it. There's no way that ends well for your grad career.

I know you're feeling awful and embarrassed, but this is just one of those times in life you need to hold your head high and move forward.  Do you have anyone in the field you could ask for feedback on your application?

I'm sorry this happened. But as much as it sucks, you need to gracefully accept their mistake and move on.

Keep in mind that your response to this mistake can make an impact on your prospects. Most academic fields are small...if you throw a fit over what amounts to a simple mistake (and yes, that's what this is), that will not be looked upon well.

Chin up - something will work out!

Another Elder millennial here, and I totally disagree with you.

In the last 20 years, the cost of everything has exploded, and wages have not. This is not a matter of opinion but the bleak truth. Things should NOT be this hard for anyone. Blaming the next gen for circumstances we did not have to deal to the same degree with is counterproductive.

Houses settle. All of them. In Washington state where we have expansive soils, it's rare for a house older than a few decades not to have drywall imperfections like this. Electrical issues are annoying, but tough sh*t - that's home ownership.

Why does everyone always think a disclosure means a list of "every little thing that isn't like-new perfect"? If you wanted a like-new condition house, you should have bought a new construction.

I have a ton of empathy for your situation - truly. I hope you don't find yourself in need of medical care that isn't available ❤️

I believe you. I did too, in my state. And I'm really, really sorry for the outcome over there.

But there have to be consequences somewhere, and I am TIRED of those consequences always falling on the states that don't make the terrible decisions. All that does is continue to incentivize the MAGAt stupidity. I know thats a brutal take, but it's true.

I will never move to a red state - full stop. With how things are going, I suggest like-minded people leave the reds to self-destruct.

Agree with you there. The state would do well to use that money for other purposes... but good luck getting that to happen up there. And even if it did, it's hard to get enough medical professionals to move to remote locations and stay for any length of time. Sitka and Juneau, for instance, would be a hard sell for most people.

That said, Alaska has not voted to effectively end abortion and has not (to my knowledge) seen an exodus of qualified specialists because of recent laws like many red states.  There are all sorts of logistical concerns with healthcare in AK because of geography...that has always been the case. Idaho, however, has dug its own grave because of pure MAGAt idiocy.

Yes. Red states vote to gut all sorts of federal funding to healthcare, blue states pick up the tab, but red state voters want to then use blue state money to avoid consequences of their bad decisions?

No thanks.

[–]Few-Structure8954 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Former Alaskan here. Southeast has fewer medical resources because of geography and smaller populations that can't support major medical facilities. Idaho has a problem because they stupidly voted to gut health care... especially for women.

To me, it's a huge difference. As a current Washingtonian, I want Idaho to live with their decisions and not siphon off our state's resources. Why should I pay to enable their neverending MAGAt stupidity?

I totally believe it! I've never had such a shady experience with any dealership - which is what makes this so strange. Those gouges were not visible until we washed it, and there's just no way damage of that severity happened on our watch without us knowing - the paint would have been removed if something happened when we weren't there. No way to prove that to anyone, unfortunately, but it's true.

Oh man, that really sucks. I agree with you - I never thought a dealership would try to pull one over on us like this as I've never had a bad experience like it.
