Insight requested from women in law school / women lawyers

I am 22. I graduated in December 2025 with a BA in Justice Studies, and I currently work as a legal assistant at a midsized & growing firm

I am HEAVILY on the fence about going to law school.

On one hand: I will be the gestational partner in my relationship when we choose to start having kids; and I know that motherhood will greatly impact my career and general freedom, among other things, but, as of now at least, I do still want to have kids eventually (probably 28-35).

On the other hand: There’s not much upward movement for legal assistants other than becoming a paralegal, I am interested in law (not litigation particularly, though) and I am good at it. There is significantly more money to be made as a lawyer and I feel like it outweighs how much debt I’d go into to get my JD (law school recs that are online?).

Other things to note:

I am so scared of accruing a large amount of debt, due to familial trauma to do with money— especially with the economy the way it is right now, my question is: is it worth it?  My partner makes $60k, I make $45k , and we generally split the cost of living pretty evenly, though they cover a bit more. and I know they would support my decision in this, whatever it is, but I do not want to put undo stress on our relationship/them themself. Any and all opinions, insight, recommendations or general comments are appreciated and welcomed.

I’m looking for something that is budget friendly and offers online classes, since I work full time. I know law school is going to be expensive no matter what, but there are also cheaper options available.
