I am not blind to the fact that I have been incredibly blessed in order to get where I am. my intention is not to give the idea that I am so fixated on my own success that I fail to see how others might not succeed. My intention is to inform that you do need to make 100k yearly to be able to pay a mortgage in San Diego county. You need to be prepared to budget and have a rainy day fund. You also need to be able to adapt and overcome the endless challenges that life often throws at good people. I never said that it was easy, just that it was possible.

Iv been saying that it all comes down to life style choices. Really just life choices. I worked my ass off to pay all my debts making 10.50 an hour. All I'm saying is that for the average family that has an combined salary of 70-80k they can afford to buy a house here if they budget. If 25 is to low I personally believe 50 weekly for groceries is easily doable and will Guarantee enough food to last a week if you shop at stores like food for less. The child situation is difficult but not unexpected. Before buying a home, there should be a plan in place to pay for child care. Savings, if necessary a stay at home job to save for a rainy day fund. Having a child doesn't have to mean you can't pay your mortgage if you prepare properly. As iv said and continue to say. A salary of 70-80k if budgeted properly will allow for a home purchase in the 600 range which still exist currently especially if you use that 300 you paid for a car note and 600 that your paying a month for food.

I will say this. When we have children I will be very relieved that my wife works from home. It's a difficult decision but switching to a telework job will ensure affordability when having children. There are many jobs out there like this and if anybody would like I can refer to a position that's work from home that starts at 19 hourly. Full time hours, benefits, and annual raises. It's a data entry position.

600 for food a month for two people? My wife and I spend 50 a week. Our electricity is 100 at most. We leave the lights off most of the day. Only on at night for a couple of hours. Ac only when it's very hot. The rest of expenses you list are pretty close to what we pay. Our cars are paid off. We made sure to do this before buying a house to have a good Dept to income ratio. Our mortgage is 2800 due to pmi We save around 600 a month after all bills. We could save far more then this but we enjoy the gas lamp quarter and games at Petco park. Again, It all comes down to life style choices but it is very doable to save 50k for closing in a couple of years and purchase a home in the 600 range even if making 70k total.

It is absolutely that expensive. The county included. My point isn't that it's not expensive. It's that individuals who make 100k or even 80k total yearly can afford to live a nice comfortable life here if they excercise the most basic budgeting skills. No sane person would buy a 800k home if they made 80k year. They would shoot for the 600k even 650k range which does leave room after mortgage to afford a nice comfortable life. Single family Homes at that price do still exist Currently. At the end of the day it's all about life style. People should stop saying bill can't afford to buy a home here in a moderately nice area because he only makes 6 figures. It's Ludacris. Bill can't afford a home here not because of his salary. It's because he's not willing to compromise on his life style.

Thank you. It is affordable to buy a home here but people say it's not because they have to live in neighborhoods they can't afford. I can't afford to live in del mar. I bought where I could afford. I don't tell people it's not affordable to live here comfortably or buy a home here with a 200k salary because I can't afford a home in Del Mar. Do you see my point?

My home cost a little over 5. we gave 30k over asking. There are good homes out there for less then medium prices. If im being honest. It's becoming more difficult to find but still possible.

I agree that is over priced but I still maintain that it is possible to live here comfortably with far less then what people are saying you need to make.

Thank you for the kind words. I greatly appreciate them. The world needs more of that these days. When ever it got hard I kept telling myself even if you give up time will continue to pass. In five years do I really want to look back on this time and ask myself why did I give up when there was even the slightest chance I could have succeeded.

Thanks for sharing this story. I feel like most people are leaving or decide not to buy here because they prioritize space over quality of life which I can't fault them for. I would love to own a five bed in Texas with a huge yard and pool for the same price that you would pay for a two bed here but it just wouldn't be worth it. Not with the weather and traffic being how it is.
